|
|
No one at my hogwon seems to know the answer...............
My ARC expires a few weeks before my contract and I have agreed to stay for an extra 6 weeks.
What exactly do I have to do at the immigration office? Do I need to sign a new contract? |

Go in with your boss and just get the extension. Your boss should pay for that, of course. It's really simple. They stamp your passport and sign the back of your ARC.
How in the hell does your ARC expire before the end of your contract?
You don't really have to go in with your boss though. When I extended my current contract, I gave my passport and ARC card to my boss and he came back later with the year-extended working visa stamp and whatever they doodle on the back of your card. |

My ARC expiry date is the same as my visa expiry date in my passport. I did not sign my contract until after my arrival and training.
Thats why the dates are different. |

There is a time limit to this type of extension. It sounds like the OP needs more than 2 months extension, which is too long for the simple "I need a couple more weeks" extension. This may require a new contract. You need to contact immigration about this. |

you need;
1. Your ARC
2. Your passport
3. A visa extention application
4. a copy of your boss' hogwon lisense
5. 60,000
6. an extended contact, showing the new date of termination
this should be all you need.
but it would be safe to contact immigration for a current list of things you need to extend your visa.
How can a visa expire before the end of a contract?
Easy- He got his visa before he started work, so now his visa expires before the end of his contract. |

For a 6-week extension, yes. You need a new contract signed. Make sure that contract only has the dates you'll be covering. Don't let them sign you on to another one-year contract with "the promise to give you a LOR" because Immigration "only works with one year contracts". It's a lie.
Actually, if you are going to work even ONE DAY past your visa, then you would need another signed contract to extend it. Extending your visa (to work legally) requires it, but extending your sojourn (to take care of a few things, travel, etc) before you leave only requires an onward ticket. |

I still don't understand how you got a visa without a contract. Isn't it necessary to sign the contract before immigration will issue the visa? |

That's what I typed after a good night of drinking. I shouldn't drink and post. |

Well, not everyones situation is exactly the same, is it? Everyone here knows that there are no uniform rules and regulations in Korea. |

In EPIK the start day of the contract is September 1st. Most E2s get their visa before that start date so they have to go in for an extension. |

To the above list you an add the employers guarentee paper.
They have to promise to immigration that they will bear the cost of deportiing you if the need arrises. |
