First to the wall, then into the computer? Or vice versa?

Doesn't really make a difference.
Make a random choice.

I was told by a friend that doing it in the wrong order can cause an electrical spike which will lessen either battery life or potentially do some other damage to the computer. He said the same thing held for cell phones.

It's not a great deal, but just want to keep all in good order.

Step 1 - Connect the AC adapter power cable into the AC adaptor.

Step 2 - Plug the AC adapter power cable into an electrical outlet.

Step 3 - Plug the AC adaptor cable into the AC adapter connector on the laptop.

I've never heard that one before.

Way back when the rule was to turn the computer on last (after the monitor, disk drives, printer, whatever) and off first. Don't know what that was based on.

Thanks, that's the way I remember it. I just wasn't sure.

I just bought an HP Pavilion dv6000. Boy, have laptops improved. I want to take good care of it.

Wouldn't the AC adapter fry quick enough to save the computer anyway?

I have no idea. I doubt it really makes a big difference, but that's what laptop instruction manuals usually say. I don't understand it, either.

I've found a set of instructions which contradicts those which are posted. So, it must not be importatnt. My buddy, though, insisted it was important.

I've got the dv2000 with the base unit. Wish I had yours. Mine is going pretty well, although there seems to be some kind of occasional glitch in the graphics when I watch videos. Rare, but happens.

All I know is ground yourself before you plug things into your USB ports. Touch the metal of your desk or chair and get rid of your static.

I almost got that one, but figured i had a credit card and Korea coming my way, so I spent. I've put about 350 CDs on my computer so far, and have hardly taken any memory space. The remote is nice for watching movies.

But, I think that any in the line is great.
