Hi!

I'm moving to Guro, Seoul in 10 days and I was wondering if anyone was familiar with the area? I've read that it used to be a rough part of town, but that it's getting better. I've heard that it's the high tech neighbourhood of Seoul, so I'm hoping it's not that bad. Also, is it far from the nightlife and the core of Seoul? My main concern is that it's more of a suburb with very little to do, and that it will take 18 subway transfers to get anywhere fun....

Thanks!

Michele

I live in that area. The good news is it's close enough to the main areas of Seoul. Line 1 will take you downtown pretty quickly, and it's convenient for travelling south too.

It's not an exciting area, but I think it's a good place to take an honest look at Korea. There aren't many foreigners (as it is one of the cheaper areas) but there isn't much traffic in general. Koreans stereotype this area as being nothing but factories, and it's kept the area from getting too gentrified.

Guro's a pretty decent place. I used to live there. There's an Aekyung Dept. Store right at the station with a big CGV theater. Also, it's right on the dark blue line, so it's a straight shot into the downtown area (say, Yongsan or Jongno).

I used to live in Hongdae (near Sangsu Station) and sometimes I felt farther away from downtown than I do now.

never lived there but you are only 5 or 6 stops from hongdae (nightlife); itaewon and kangnam are probably going to take you 40 min-hour though.
