Ken, I've owned two here, and I want to let you in on something about Korea.
They often don't sell refills, or the refills cost as much as the darned thing did in the first place.
Be sure to ask about that, or buy a few extra refills when you get it. Three months, or six months later, they're bound to be out, or the model will have been discontinued (with no refills).
I've run into this twice now.
Called the manufacturer of my current model (which cost me 90,000 won when I got it) and they said they don't sell replacement filters.
"Just slap it on the ground a few times to knock out the dust," the woman told us.
Crazy.
Then again there are those models which cost 350,000 won. Not sure if they sell refills for those. |

Thanks gsxz750r (cool bike, oat-oh-ba-i),
Thanks for the warning about filters.
Do they actually work well, and is there a noticeable difference in odour/air quality? |

I have one to sell. It's called Green nara and its an Ion cleaner. It doesn't need a filter, it's got a metal grid filter that you can easily wipe clean. I'll sell it for 40,000 or best offer. I can send you a pic of it if you send me your e-mail address.

I feel that they do make a difference. I will probably buy one for the office, too -- or put a new one in here, and move this one to the office after I bang the filter on the pavement again.
I think I paid 88,000 for mine. It's by Hanil. Lowest price I could find. Had it about a year now. Seems to still suck air through the filter, and I have to clean the pre-filter every 3 months or so (washes under shower). Wish I could change the main filter every 6 months.
I have been thinking about making my own again. I used to have one made out of a box and a filter element from home. One could just as easily do the same with a car airbox filter (15,000 won to replace, too) and a big computer fan or exhaust fan and do just as good. Might have to do the same again. |

Those Ion air cleaners were all the rage 5 years ago, until it was learned that the large amounts of ozone produced by them can cause lung damage. Depends on the model, but is it worth the risk?
