Thats cheap..sorry but there is no way to twist that another way....dude...the water at your work is meant (and paid for by the school) for students and teachers at work....

Buy some bottled water for Petes sake....

Except for that you make choices that fit your lifestyle and all power to you....

I used to know a guy like that who lived on the cheap....he came to every school dinner or staff dinner but oddly enough it was never his turn to pick up the tab. He let coworkers do that. We took cabs and he never had "change"...it was always I will get ya later...later never came.
Don't become that person man....that person sucks.

May be he is talking about filtered water and not mineral water. If it's filtered water, then I guess ... but still it's kinda cheap to be doing that.

I mean, we have a 19L bottle delivered to our home every MONTH for just 5K... and we have 3 people at home..

The water thing is partly due to cheapness but also due to laziness and concern for the environment. I don't exactly have the resources (without some sort of effort) to get water delivered in big quantities to my house. I don't like having to buy water from the corner store because it's very hard on the environment with all that plastic every week. I know the Koreans do it (judging from the trash heap outside my house) but it's not really my style! I have a few old bottles I bring to work and fill up from the filter. Is this not so bad?

Anyway, I try not to be cheap when I'm with other people. I will always pay my fair share for meals...buy people a drink or meal on their birthday, etc. I will sometimes just go to a more expensive restaurant if the other people want to do that and not worry about it. I also invite other people to my house for meals semi-regularly.

jlb...no worries man...I did not say you were like the dude I mentionned.

But still the water thing is cheap...no way round that. Not to mention that the water bottles get recycled...or don't they?

You could also buy a refillable jug, they sell those here.

I keep a log of what I spend on what in a tiny little marble-bound composition book.
At the end of a month, I evaluate what I spent on what, and figure out where I could realistically spend less.
Works for me.

Yes, plastic gets recycled but it still takes a lot of resources to do it (but fewer than to make a new one from nothing). Recycling is good for the environment but buying less is much, much better.

I don't have a budget but always take the cheapest option possible.

Take the bus? No...I could walk!

Buy those 4 nice looking apples for 10 000 won? Wait...that's crazy...there's some oranges over there on the discount rack.

Go out for supper? Rarely....I can cook at home for much cheaper.

Go out for a movie? Never...I have a computer and internet and can download and invite friends over for free.

Drinking on weekends? Only if the company is paying. Otherwise, it's hiking the local mountains or playing ping-pong or tennis or something cheap.

Join a gym? No! I have my weight set at home and go running a lot outside.

Talk on cell-phone? Why? I have a phone at home and work.

Buy water? That's crazy...I can fill up for free at work!

Haha.. isn't this what they call a 고추장남? Laughing

My budget is about 1 mil a month for whatever, and the rest I put towards savings or paying off old debt.. kinda simple.

jlb...ante up and buy a refillable jug for your home. They can be bought here (or perhaps rented) and the water guy will deliver at your home.

We have one of those in the house....

I even think there was a thread about this on here.

If you are a short-timer then the water jug service will benefit the other teachers after you....not a bad plan no? I mean you would have liked to have this in your place when you arrived no? Think about that dude...

I agree. I've been buying six packs of large bottles of water. When school starts again, I'm going to fill up a 2 liter jug (at school as needed) that I bought for that purpose. It will save me money and I won't be buying pet bottles (which when recycled are just ground up into raw material for something else. The purchasing of plastic bottles just fuels the need to make replacements. ie: not environmetally friendly).

Here is an idea: rent or buy a large refillable and refigirated water dispenser for your home. They are available here.

Then when you leave, the next teacher gets to use it and so on.

If the price is too steep for you, ask your school to go part way or all the way and buy it for you.

Or, at the very least ask permission before using the schools paid for water to refill your personal water bottles....

I need about 600K for month. 150 or so for bills, 450 for food entertainment, clothes, etc. The rest goes home. Pays a few bills, the remaining few hundred goes to my sons savings.
