Which exact people? Lefties, Liberals, Democrats? Or do you mean the families of the tens of thousands of soldiers who have to deal with the death or mutilation of a loved one? Or the hundreds of thousands of men and women and their families who were made to believe the Iraq war would be a 6 week adventure and then be greeted as liberators, then be shipped off to Iraq again and again while being exploited by the likes of Haliburton who make them pay for their own meals in a war zone, while they earn a Wal-mart level salary for risking their lives for a war that has no sense or reason apart from enriching the Bush family and its greedy Republican cronies?

Which people exactly?

won't anyone besides the US step up? Britain's pulling out. the other countries never wanted to be involved in the first place, but can they ignore the situation now? (esp. other countries in the region--- why isn't Saudi doing more?)

which exact people? the answer: american people in general.
if we pulled out too soon (cut & run), the REAL slaughter would begin within a week and would not end for years. just because we wouldn't be there to witness the consequences doesn't mean they wouldn't happen.it has occurred too often in history to be blind to the results. to think iraq would somehow be an exception is a dangerous game to play. but it is the responsibility of the american people to ensure that does not happen. we can blame our president/representatives, but they serve at the pleasure of the people. they are not royalty and did not inherit the office by divine right. we as a people voted our leaders into office, we americans are ultimately responsible for what happens in iraq.

cheers svetlana (i know ur intelligent)

bonne nuit...

Then here is a question where did the 9-11 hijackers come from? Afghanistan?

Saudi Arabia, and yet the Saudis seem to have no role in any of Americas wars in the region... It was telling how a while back when the American media was going on about how Syria and Iran should get involved in making peace in Iraq, yet Saudi Arabia who spawned the nutjobs who carried out 9/11 and share a 1000km border with Iraq have very little role in bringing peace. The Americans do not care about freedoms and peace, they care about control and exploiting resources. If America was even 1/10 as good and pure as they pretend to be, they would be in Darfur trying to help the millions of people who have and are starving to death while death squads roam free. Too bad there is not any oil in the Sudan....

Anyone that thinks that the Iraq war was for oil is an idiot. For one, Iraq controls it's own oil and serves no purpose to the Americans. Secondly, they could have just invaded Canada since they have the second largest proven oil reserves. Or they could have made problems with the saudis and caused a war with them and then got the largest oil reserve in the world. If you said that it was a grudge for trying to kill Bush senior or something, I might believe it. It pi$$es me off to no end that we have people stupid enough to say that stuff about the oil. Because to benefit from it, they would have to control it. Which they don't.

You are naive. Iraq controls their oil, yes, but who owns the production contract post war? American oil companies are making billions in Iraq. Just as American companies are making billions off the war effort, while the tax payers foot the bill. That is a fact. Spouting off rhetoric like you have just done shows how easily you are seduced by right wing media. The Iraq war was conceived as a massive bonanza for Bush friendly capitalists.

Definitely not them. Most Liberals, lefties and democrats were against the war - an unfounded but reasonable guess.

It was the Right Wing vermin who supported the invasion and these same insects that are now arguing we should pull out. Both positions are incorrect in my view.

I suppose there's even a third, worse position.....(a) supported the invasion, (b) support pulling out now, (c) support attacking Iran.
