First of alll, don't sign ANYTHING she gives you. She knows what she is doing.
Then, get down to the labor board.
You can find the locations at www.molab.go.kr
Click the english version.
If she threatens to fire you, let her. Go to the labor board.
The good new is that IF she does fire you, you will be released from your VISA. Getting a new job will not take long. |
Good advice. I second that. Don't sign anything. |

Getting fired does not release you from your visa. He/she will still need a Letter Of Release from the school or have his/her director go into immigration and cancel it. If either of these doesn't happen, then the OP won't be able to get another visa until the OP's current one expires. |

Or maybe not. Depends. Get fired. Check with immi. They probably would just say, "Yeah, whatever. You're free. No problem." If not, they can just call your boss and take care of it right there.
So, yeah. Get fired. Ok. Go to immi.
But really. If they fire you, they should give you a release letter. No, "Ok. You're fired. Goodbye. Checks in the mail." It's your pink slip. |

Sorry to hear about your loss OP.
Refunds? With ten foreigner teachers on the staff, nobody covered your classes? That's what, 40 extra minutes a day or so for each of them?
I would ask the other teachers if your classes were covered. No, don't drag them into it, but find out anyways.
I doubt very much any parent got any money back. |

Getting fired DOES release you from your VISA if the employer intends to hire a new teacher. I'm not going into the mechanics of all this again here, but I have it DIRECTLY from the horse's mouth.
One important thing is that the employee not cause property damage or commit any other criminal acts that can be reported. |

who cares how many days she was gone, directors arent allowed to do this. I would be at the labour board right now right after i quit and told the bitch off.
HE/SHE will burn in hell for that. I almost want to call there and tell them off myself.
DONT FORGET THAT U DONT NEED A LOR IF U ARE FIRED FOR ANY REASON SO DONT LET THEM THINK THAT U NEED ONE TO FIND A BETTER JOB, WHICH SHOULDNT BE HARD |

Sorry for your loss..
Don't understand how these directors with 10 foreign teachers on board can't create a backup plan. Seriously, things happen, what if one person just can't physically show up for whatever reason. Pretty damn stupid.. |

It is not a holiday. It is called bereavement leave, and is protected by Labor Law. If she takes the money from you, call the Labor Office and get the money back.
Do NOT sign anything the woman gives you. If she fires you, she fires you. She has to give you 30 days notice. If she refuses to give 30 days notice, then again, call Labor.
I imagine doing a runner will be your only option if you want to keep all your money. The boss sounds like she's take it from your final salary anyway. |

This is about 99% certain to end up at Labor. Get your documents ready, be smart, and keep your cool. |

Now, if I remember correctly, you are allowed 7 days consecutive for illness/illness in the family with pay on top of the regular holidays, and a few more if you're a woman. Employers cannot dock your pay. Bring it up to the labor board and you will win.
The rules of employment that alabamaman refered to must be posted in a place that is visible and accessible at all times. Failure to do this will bring a hefty fine. Don't forget to mention to the labor board that these rules aren't posted at your hagwon. |

My Grandma died while I was over here, I didn't know you could take time off for stuff like that, so I just kept it to myself. Then my director found out and was upset that I didn;t take any time off to go home for the funeral. I'll tell ya, she was the most awesome director ever.
I'm glad to hear that you took the time off. It is something that you will never regret, no matter what happens in korea.
Dang! I hope you are feeling ok..... |
