So, what's up with having to submit your degree copy, alien card and passport to your local education department in the gu where you work in Seoul? Sounds dumb to me. My boss called me tonight and told me to bring in my original ARC and passport. I DON'T BELIEVE the Education department needs to put their paws on my original ARC and passport. Has anyone else been asked to do this recently? Sounds strange and weird to me. Shocked

Yup, I've had to do it at every job. No big deal. They do it in one day and you get it back the same day. No problems.

My boss said they needed my degree, passport, and arc. She had my degree at the time and I just gave her copies of the other two. I asked her about my degree just the other day and apparently she had forgotten it at the education office... Shocked hope they haven't "misplaced" it.

See, that's why I always pul my princess attitude. You can't trust ANYONE!!! I mean ANYONE!!! Copies of all three for me. My US govt even says no one should have my passport in their posession. It's illegal. The Edu office can get by with only copies.

I had to do that a few times in Bundang, Gyeonggi-do last year. They moved me around to a few campuses, and each time they said they had to reregister me. The last time they asked I made a fuss about it, and ultimately the idea was dropped. Folks at the consulate, the immigration office, the hagwon, and the education office had all seen and "verified" my paperwork. It was the principle of having to hand over my paperwork again that got me riled up. These documents were nothing they hadn't seen before. In theory all they had to do was make a call over to the education office---or to immigration---to check that I was legal. Apparently that's all they ended up doing because I wouldn't give up my passport, ARC, and diploma for the 5th time in 10 months.

Yeah, no big deal. I didn't have to actually give up my diploma or passport though. They just checked them out and I got them back immediately.

Well then you shouldn't even be in Korea. Because the Korean embassy hangs on to it overnight to put a E-2 visa in it. And according to you that's illegal. Laughing
