It's just a barber. Why does he have to speak Englishee? I've had my hair cut in 4 countries where I didn't speak the language.

Otherwise, use this:

(I believe thanks go to Mith).

I'm asking because they keep cutting my hair the same way every time, regardless of my attempts to explain that I don't like it like that. Even pictures didn't work out for me.

Sorry, I should have mentioned I live in Seoul. I am willing to travel anywhere the subway can take me if it means a decent haircut. I was so frustrated with my last one that I just shaved my head clean.

I would suggest the hair salon about Burger King in Itaewon.
Ask for Michel. He speaks good English and, I am not a guy, but have seen him cut guy's hair and do a good job. He will always listen to what you want done.

Yes, it can be a problem.
I try some of the other languages I can speak.

I was very fortunate just before New Year.. My 25 year old barber did not speak English, but he did respond to my Mandarin Chinese. He studied for half a year in Harbin. So, we were able to communicate.

We were having good attempts at conversation when the manager came over and interrupted us. Seems he was very suspicious of what was happening -languagewise.

---

BTW, some White faces in Korea are not incompetent morons. It amazes and impresses the .... out of the Koreans to find that out.

for a nice buzz-cut, just say "sports-a mah-ri hae-juseyo"

it means, roughly "sports hair, please do/give me"

my kids taught me that one, and it worked alright a few times

if your barber is an attractive ajumma, as mine was, those words are magic

you are in for life

i can't vouch for the guys' cuts, but i would NOT recommend him for the girls. my mom is a hair stylist and i know good hair cuts. this guy butchered my hair last time. it was the shoddiest haircut i've gotten here. he spent the whole time talking to his friend sitting behind me, which resulted in uneven-ness and fly-aways. Crying or Very sad

Although I would never ever get my hair dyed there again, he has always given me and my friend good cuts.

I second this...

I don't know Kateoys, nor do I know of "blue club"
The double barber poles are, if I'm to understand correctly, houses of ill repute. Please correct me if I'm wrong, or I'll just have to go see for myself dammit.

I don't know what Kateoys are
Blue Club is a chain of men's hair and beauty shops here in Korea.
Shops with double barbers poles where the ladies, sometimes scantily clad, offer extras in addition to shaves and cuts. Anything from a massage to a handjob. I believe some of them even have beds at the back of the store.

I heard about these places. The bigger the barber pole the more obvious its an ahjumah handjob facility. That was just from hearsay though, can't verify it.
