I resigned my contract for another year, about two months ago but in the past few weeks my boss has turned into an absolute idiot. He deducated alot of money for classes last month that didnt happen, but I was made hang around school for, and in general has created a horrible atmosphere in the school. I really want to leave cos I'm not happy and am not teaching well.....whats the drill for getting a release letter? I don't want to leave Korea, but do want to change jobs....any advice appreciated! Cheers! |

The process for getting a release from your contract is quite simple. However, your employer may give you a hard time, depending on his school's quality and the number of teachers he has on staff.
The way I obtained my release was thus: First I submitted a letter of resignation (30-days in advance). You'll have to come up with one or two good reasons for leaving, such as: I can't teach kids, thought I could..or the same for adults. Then submit the letter to him in e-mail and in person, and have another teacher witness the whole thing. Sometimes Koreans will say; "what resignation letter?" The e-mail also covers any other way he might try to get out of it.
Then start shopping around for another employer, and tell your new school exactly what's going on. Tell them you have resigned due to..... and then have them contact your old school for the release letter.
That's how I got my release. Unless there is something really disturbed about your present employer, he'll release you becuase he really doesn't want some destructive force in his school. |
