My employer has just opened a second school and has been considering either transferring me there from the school I currently work at , or having me split my week between the 2 schools.
However, my employer has now got the impression that in order to do either of these things, I will have to get a new visa.. ie) my current visa would have to be canceled, and a new one issued.. - the full process: transcripts..etc... trip to Japan...
Does anyone have experience, and know whether or not this is correct..? |

My school changed locations. My boss took my alien registration card (possibly passport, I don't remember) and took them to immigration. I didn't need a new visa or anything. Your boss just needs to inform them about a change of address (at least from my experience). |

As it's the same boss, he just needs to get an amendment to your E2, with an alternate place of employment put on the back of it. Easy to do. Just head down to immigration, fill out the forms, pay them some money and they will endorse your current E2. |

Get your boss to pay the charge.
Hopefully, you won't be asked to help with the move. I was told to not make plans for 2 vacation days. I didn't go in and help, the boss didn't say anything really but oh, those others teachers how they did glare. |

That's what I thought.
so, my boss either spoke to somebody really stupid at the immigration office, or he's lying to me.. |

Just to add, if your boss is putting the hagwon in someone else's name, you will have to transfer the visa, which involves signing a new contract and transferring the visa (which means resubmitting the new contract, diplomas, and transcripts).
However, this should only be if the hagwon is under a different name (which he may be doing) and maybe if it is considered a separate entity with perhaps a slightly different business name. My school just moved the main branch and a few months later the second branch closed and we moved to the main branch. The teachers at the main branch had to get the address changed on their ARC, but as the second branch was under his wife's name and had a separate business name, we have to sign new contracts and transfer the visa. |

'Transfer' the visa or go to Japan and get a new visa?
This is what my boss said I would have to do. |

In this case, like me, you should be able to just transfer the remainder of the time left on your visa.. I haven't done it yet, but according to what immigration told my school, you sign a new contract, resubmit all the documents and the remainder of the time left on your visa is transfered over to the 'new' school. No visa run required. I think there are even people on here who have transfered their visas to completely different schools when both bosses were in agreement. |
