I'll never get over the utter lack of responsibility of Koreans and their inability to properly dispose of their TRASH.

This pile of trash has been growing for the past two months. It started out as a single bag of garbage and now...this:




The Koreans have the 11th largest economy in the world no? They can't afford to clean up their garbage? They put it on the average citizen to do it? Why would they do that if they don't even enforce the laws?

Imho, the best way to get Koreans to follow the "trash laws" would be to hire trash police to enforce the law by handing out tickets. Throw trash on the ground? Get a ticket for a million won. Can't or won't pay the fine? Go to jail. How fast would that work? Instead of all those stupid kimchi making food shows, pound it into their heads with non stop 24 hour shows about how they're going to be fined if they're caught throwing trash on the ground instead of disposing of it properly. It's not rocket science.

As far as the dumpsters go, I think that would be the easiest option for the government. All they have to do is install them and hire workers with trucks to pick up the garbage every two days, then drive it to the dump. Don't they burn it all anyway?


Edit: Why is it that the Japanese can hire city workers to clean up trash off the streets and the Koreans can't? Korea isn't poor, all they have to do is provide the public with trash cans and hire some city workers to clean up a bit. With plenty of dumpsters and recycle bins, wouldn't the average citizen stop throwing their trash on the ground? Schoolchildren are some of the worst offenders...I've seen them buy candy, tear off the wrappers and just throw it anywhere - not a care in the world. Why do the Japanese educate their citizens and why are they so anal about garbage? Because they care about their country and keeping it beautiful?

And then ther's the complete opposite; the trash nazi. There are at least twenty separate bags for each kind of trash. One bag for green bottles (heh), one for browm, one for those little "drinking yogurt" cartons, etc. And the 95 year old man that guards them and yells like a lunatic if you put cardboard in the yellow paper box. Sheesh.


Please, just get some dumpsters!

Hell yes, get some dumpsters. Hire workers to sort through it and separate the garbage if the average Korean citizen won't do it properly. It's not rocket science. People come to Korea (another board) on business and you know what the one thing they remember the most about the city of Seoul is? THE TRASH STREWN EVERYWHERE!

Actually, Korea is generally cleaner than my home country, the UK.

But the government relies on the average citizen to do the picking through. The average citizen doesn't care about it, they throw bottles and cans on top of other people's garbage bags as they walk down the street, knowing that nothing will happen to them. It's an eyesore and it's not just one or two areas of Seoul...it's just about everywhere.

I guess I would like more trashcans. I smoke and there is never anywhere to put the butts. When I am about to go onto the subway I still look about for a trashcan, but to no avail. There are always lots of butts near the entrances, so I am not the only person with this problem.
