Here we go! Not only am I not qualified to teach TOEFL, I'm not qualified to teach TOEIC. So quess who's basically forcing me to teach both? By forcing me I mean thats my new schedule. These classes are not even within the contract hours.
Hmm.. no taxes, no medical, no pension. teaching beyond what I signed up for and outside the contract hours.
okay to go now?

Sorky deal, eh.
I'd bail if and only if Monster does not give you a Letter of Release.
PM me for a new job with someone from Korea who moved to Toronto at age 9 and just returned to the R.O.K. two years ago. He's very cool and generous.
He appears to be able to get anybody out of a bad situation.
PM me.

Heres my solution: A fully staffed fulltime bureau within the National Human Rights Commission of Korea to investigate all, and I mean all, complaints made by native-speaking English teachers against employers. And empower the Commission, giving it real teeth to fine, jail, or close schools. |

The above would be a wonderful solution.
If my contract was being honored I would be more than happy to fulfill my obligations to this establishment. However, at this point I see no solution to my problems than to leave. Not only am I losing severance, pension and having to pay my way out, I truly hate the fact that I entered a contract in good faith only to be absolutely blindsided by a poster on this board. I researced this school before I came and turned down two other offers because of the strong recommendation of a poster on this board. |

Ask your employer to honor the terms of the contract. Then insist. If he won't honor the contract, then quit according to the contract and insist on a letter of release. Do not ask for a post dated letter of release. That is never reasonable and employers will not give one.
If your employer has not yet honored every term of your contract, it doesn't invalidate the contract nor does it mean that he won't ever honor it. If you run, you break the entire contract.
You should honor your contract the way you expect others to honor a contract. Don't lower yourself to their level. |

Tell him you want him to honor your contract and pay you OT for the hours that don't fall within your schedule. Ask for all the OT hours he hasn't paid you for. If he hums and haws, go to the labor board.
I don't know what to say about the material you have to teach. I'd venture to guess that that wasn't mentioned in the contract, so you are most likely SOL there.
If you want another job in Korea anytime soon, don't do a runner.
I don't understand why you even let them do this to you in the first place. I mean screwing with your schedule. The material? That's too bad, so sad. At least it's not New Parade or whatever the name of those crappy books are. |
