I read a lot of people exchanging dogma, but has anybody ever actually been swayed one way or the other by something they read here?
I'm damned to the lake of fire, myself, and pretty happy with that. Got my weenies and marshamallows all primed up and ready to toast. I'm looking forward to seeing some old friends there, too. But really, I can't imagine I'd ever go the other way because of something I read here on Dave's. I find it difficult to believe that any religious people would be convinced to re-assess their beliefs, either. Dunno about you, but all I get is deeper entrenched.
But what about you good people? Anyone ever gain or lose a lick of sense from a religious-themed post? |

Never ever going to happen.
Anyone that easily swayed as to be converted on a messageboard has already been gobbled up by the moonies. |

There is always the chance that someone will be smart enough to derive some wisdom from my more philosophical posts... There's no point in trying to convert anyone to anything, but if evangelical atheists and Christians are gonna post their already well-known views, I feel obliged to present the essence of ancient Vedic teachings, which most people are much less familiar with ... |

Sweetpete, I'm sorry to disappoint, as it looks like you were looking forward to those s'mores and 100% kosher hot dogs, but I've been doing some reading recently that contradicts the Bible's description existence of hell as we know it. There is a description of a "lake of fire" but the translation implies something more like the "pile of burning tires out of town" where the rubbish is tossed. Nothing alive is permitted in there.
There is a place in revelations with flames and devouring worms, but it's not for us mortals. Again, sorry. Best do as many campfires as possible up here. |

Awwwww...I wanted theatrics, Bosch, Milton even: instead I get Alabama. |

I have been converted to IGTG's view of the world from Dave's and now spend my days (and sweaty nights) wandering around trying to connect dots. My new wallpaper is a mess. Does that count? |

my atheism has been strengthened by reading some of the douchebaggery spouted by crosslickers on this board. |

Is there a word that encapsulates the phrase "anti-poster boy"? |

Kermo, are you talking about the Jewish/Christian belief of Gehenna? That is an interesting concept, and where the whole fire and torture idea came from. Btw, as a scholar of Hell, I can't help but share with you all and interesting trivia point. The Jewish Rabbinical texts that first mention the fiery pit say that all but the absolute worst would not be there for more than a year. It was John Milton, a poet in relatively modern times, who created the idea of eternal damnation- as well as the very image of hell itself. |

I've not been converted to a theist position. I've probably been swayed on political issues, ideas about Korean culture, etc. I'm prepared to be swayed that theists are not all kool-aid drinking weak-willed morons. Although meegook and junior have not helped the case.
I'll argue against Rteacher til I'm as blue in the face as his giant baby god, but I do find it amusing he's a counter point to the christians. His blue god answers his prayers. His blue god works miracles in his life. His book has prophecies that have come as "true" as Biblical prophecy. |

I think converting an expat is about as likely as turning a Homosexual men straight. |

Well, I ALMOST converted to being a Neo-con based on the writings of some in the Current Event forum. But I'm lazy and couldn't keep up with what I was supposed to think from Fox News. So I didn't. |

I have known a couple of foreigners to practice/appreciate Buddhism here. To what degree their background beliefs already supported such a perspective on life I dunno.
And I've seen some Mormons and JWs try and convert some foreigners. |

This in conjunction with how silly he makes Hare Krishna's appear make him one of the more philanthropic posters on the board.
A good sub-question would be: How many people now think Hinduism is balls-out goofy because of discussions on Dave's? |
