if she had plastic surgery done on her face? It's one of the first things that pop in my head when I meet a pretty K-girl, but I'm afraid to ask and risk a faux pas. If anyone's ever asked before, please tell me what kind of response I can expect.
Also, do you think it's wrong to discriminate against the surgically enhanced when making a marriage decision? If you were about to marry a K-girl and found out she was butt-ugly before the surgery would it sway your decision? |

#1 - you can often times see on her face or eye lid if she closes her eyes. If there is a line on the eye lid in the middle, that means she had double-eye surgery. Also eyes should be more slanted and like a slit. If it is rounded then she had a surgery. You can ask - always response is that she didn't have and she is natural. Ask to see high school pics when you are all in love and shit - you know people sometimes like to see older pics.
#2 - I discriminate when I have to make such a decision. As a matter of fact, its my policy not to date a K-girl with plastic surgery for anything more than a one-night/one-week stand. Can't get serious with one like that. |

I think this is one aspect in which foreigners are behind Koreans. Why are some people so hung up about plastic surgery? Why does it matter? If you like the girl, it is irrelevant if she had plastic surgery. Did you have braces as a child? Why is ok for you to straighten your teeth and alter their natural state but not ok for her to get a double eye lid because she thinks it looks better? |

The eye jobs are the easiest to spot, followed by the nose jobs. After that I have no clue what kind of work might have been done. I only know of 3 other procedures that alter the structure: slimming of the cheek, slimming of the jaw and a chin implant. I'm sure there are others.

The common objection to marrying a girl with altered features is that the "ugly" DNA is going to be passed onto the child. That is mine as well. I want only the best for my child and would prefer he/she be born with every natural advantage. If you think I'm being superficial, my response is that, yes, I am. But the world is a superficial place and I'm just playing by its rules. |

Listen, if a girl was butt-ugly before surgery, then she will just be regular ugly after surgery. It isn't magic. It can make a pretty girl prettier, but it can't work miracles.
Would you discriminate against girls who were able to alter their eyelids without surgery? A lot of Korean girls have been able to do that as well by just wearing a special little piece above their eye for a while and eventually it changes. |

1. One, i think there are two different aspects here. One is whether you would discriminate against girls who get double eye lid surgery or other minor changes. I would consider this minor surgery and not any worse than say getting braces. Do you ask your potential mate for dental records?
2. The effects that marrying a girl with major cosmetic surgery will have on your child.
One interesting aspect is that two beautiful people don't always result in producing a beautiful kid. |

Your remarks about braces are somewhat inaccurate. Unlike eye-lids, for example, teeth are affected by and changed as people grow up. For example, using a dummy and eating particular kinds of foods can affect your teeth alignment much more than genetic disposition. |

That's what your chick told you? Yes, there is a small strip you can glue on your eye lids and make them look like double and you can get that in any Family Mart for 1-2000 won. But wearing it for a long time and eventually it changes ? |

You are somewhat correct but if a westerner is worrying about his girlfriend's eye lids that is pointless. Asians are not born with double eye lids. If a westerner is worried about this genetic aspect he or she would best be served by not mating with an asian. I see double eye lids more as a fasion trend than anything that really alters a woman's appearance. |

20-30% have natural double-eye lids. In North Korea even more.
And if the wife cheated with some westerner then kid would have doubles as well |

Cosmetic dental work and the double eye lid surgery I can overlook. Major structural overhaul of the face I cannot.

Is it okay to ask a K-girl/woman if she's had an abortion? Would you care, or want to know? |

If your facts are correc then thanks for correcting me. I wonder where you got those stats!!!
The main point is still that a lot of Korean women do have surgery to get double eye lids. |

My understanding is that abortions impair a woman's ability to conceive again. If that is the case, then it is obviously crucial information. Of course, I would also need a guarantee that it won't happen with my child. |
