Who's been on one?
I've heard on this board somewhere that there's an English tour that's pretty good.
I couldn't find other related topics.
Information on who to go through would be appreciated.

Thanks for the info.
I've seen those threads before but didn't wanna go through the hassle of searching for them.
Thanks.

Subject: DMZ tours
The USO runs a tour to the DMZ almost every saturday, and sometimes during the week. It costs $40.00 US. Does not include lunch, but I believe it's the only tour that actually goes to the DMZ (where the buildings that straddle the borfder see in photos). We were there in Aug., and only 4 ft from the No. Korean soldier as he guarded his side of the "line". The Tour leaves from Camp Kim - which is beside the Yongsan Military Post. Get off line 4 at Sookmyung Woman's University stop and walk south on west side of street. - at the big intersection, continue further south and down on your right side will be camp kim. it will have Korean Police guarding it or get off line 1 at namyeong -come downstairs turn right, at intersection right again, and down to the USO.

I'd be interested in going, but every time I've gone to donate blood in the US, I get the same response:
"You've been to South Korea? Let me see... (consults book) Have you been to the Demilitarized Zone?"
"No."
"Alright. You're ok to donate blood then." |

Well, that's interesting. Why is that? |

Are you booked on for the full tour (tunnels and/or observatory)?
When I went we just went to the DMZ itself, and were back in Seoul around 1:30pm. |

Ooh, that sounds exactly what I want. I've done the tunnels - totally gay, did the Dora Observatory - ditto, but my brothers coming next week and I thought I'd take him up there, the 1:30 finish is fab as I start work at 3, need to be back by then. Please give the low down. If it works out and you can figure out who i am if you see me, I'll buy you a beverage of your choice. |

I'm guessing every tour is pretty much the same, if you go through the USO or some other tour organisation.
Meet at the USO at 7:15 for a 7:30 departure, then you go all the way to the American army camp up at the DMZ. We went to a briefing room and got a small slide-show and pep-talk about the history of the DMZ before getting a wee drive around the camp in a military bus with a running commentary from a reasonably high-ranking soldier or two. You'll see all the major sights at the DMZ (discussion rooms, axe fight place, North Korean village & flag etc), then you get to go for lunch at your expense in one of the canteens on the base.
If I remember correctly we were back on the bus around 12:30ish and from then it was a 1 hour journey back to the USO in Seoul.

Sounds like there are 2 different tours.
Anyone have a price range for both?
This has been a wealth of information. Thanks for the help.
