With OT, between 2.6 and 2.9, not including paid housing/utilities. Base is 2.2. This semester (for another month, until early AM classes start) I'm working 1 hour on Monday, 2 on Tuesday, 9 on Thurs, and 9 on Friday. Pay rate differs for OT, depending on when the classes are.

I just had a 20 million won sign-on bonus deposited in my home bank account and I havent even got on a plane headed for Korea, yet. The director told me I could show up at my own convenience. By the way, I signed a 2-month contract, with all expenses paid. The first six weeks I will only be observing classes.

every Korean I talk to, I say I should make around 2.3 a month and they always say that I can do so much better...even though I have no qualifications except my BA.

Let's be realistic here. This is Korea. You can do much better. There is a huge shortage here, and if some haggie owner wants to be a cheapskate, there is no reason in the world to work for him/her.

Isn't it perfectly normal for a girl to ask a guy how much he makes per month, week, day, year, second, especially if she is a Korean princess?

I have never understood why this could be rude. Maybe because I have never made obscene amounts of money....

I went to Korea with teaching experience and a certificate. Though I do not consider a TEFL certificate anywhere close to equivalent to a state teaching credential, I felt I was pretty qualified to work in a good school.

I turned down a public school position to work in a hogwon... for 1.9 a month. I was really happy there and saved a fortune. Sometimes I felt a little discouraged that other teachers who didn't give a crap about their jobs made more $ than me but I wouldn't trade my low paying job and tiny kids hogwon for anything.

Would I work for that now?? Probably not.... but it was still a pretty awesome job and back then, the money was just an extra perk.
