So I'm thinking about taking a trip to Ghana at the end of my contract in July - one of my Ghanain friends has been itching to go, and I am seriously considering going.
I've heard that Ghana is a lot safer than other African countries - does anyone have experience? What about neighboring countries such as the Ivory Coast and Senegal?
Thanks for your help. |

there's some great surfing in senegal, if you're interested in that.
as far as i know, the ivory coast isn't one of the safest countries to visit. |

Senegal is safe and gets a fair # of tourists. The Gambia is goo as well. Ivory coast, on the other hand, is having a bit of a civil war presently.
I know someone who served in the peace corps in Ghana. She really enjoyed it. yes, you'd be perfectly fine there. |

Hey,
It is safer now than the past 10 years. Also there has been a lot of growth, economically.
My brother is from Ghana, Tamale area. He has not mentioned an uprising for many years.
Bring nothing. A dirty backpack, no bling, no extras. Be careful with money. Flash nothing, small bills, etc. you know the drill.
Warm heart and an open mind... take them. You will need them
