Hi,
Im certain ive read a post already about this but i dont seem to be able to find it again so any info or a shunt in the right direction would be great.
Most jobs in Korea seem to come with a free round flight in the package. How does this work? do i need to buy a single or return flight out to Korea? I'm guessing that business class isn't covered but is there a specific airline i need to travel with?
if the flight involves later reimbursement how does this work and how long will it take? - should i budget for my flight in my start up costs? Im planning to travel to Hong Kong for a month before i arrive in Korea, will this mean only the flight from Hong Kong will be covered? what if i arrive in Korea before i have a job? will this mean i wouldnt get any money back for my flights?
any info would be tops

If you are contracted to work in a hakwon then you should INSIST on a prepaid ticket to Korea and make sure your contract has a provision for a fully paid for flight home again. Do NOT accept some promise of repayment later. Hakwons are notorious for NOT repaying tickets in a timely fashion.
You may also want to allow for a cash payout in case you decide to travel to another place instead of your home country after your contract.
If you land a job as a PUBLIC school teacher (EPIK, GEPIK, SMOE/ETIS, or similar) you will be expected to purchase your own ticket to Korea and you will be reimbursed shortly after your arrival in Korea.
They will provide a ticket home at the end of your contract OR if you re-up you will get a 2 week home leave with a ticket paid for by the school.
( I trust the government to repay me, I do NOT trust any hakwon owners - experience of many talking ).
If you go to HK before you sign a contract you will probably only get the flight from HK to Korea paid for. You would be better off waiting and taking your trip there on your vacation time or at the end of your contract. |
