I know I definitely want to be near or around Seoul. Where is Gangnam exactly in relation to Seoul?

I have friends in Suwon and one in Northern Seoul. One suggested that we live in Seoul Proper so they have places to crash on the weekends. What exactly is Seoul proper? Downtown area?

If someone has a link for a map of suburbs and the like that would be great.

I saw a job for Gangnam Seoul but I'm having trouble establishing where exactly some of the suburbs cities are.

Help is appreciated, thank you.

Kangnam is just south of the River and south/southeast of downtown Seoul.

So I found a suburb map.

I guess most the night life is in Itaewon? So if we went out for drinks or something and lived in Gangnam a cab ride back wouldn't be too much? It would be fairly accessible to friends on the outskirts?

It would be between 8,000 to 14,000won for a cab ride from Gangnam station to Itaewon or vice versa, depending on traffic and the time of day (faster but more expensive after midnight). And you can also go toward Hongdae station if you are looking for some nightlife.

I personally like Itaewon, but many on this board beg to differ on that observation.

Seoul proper (Seoul-shi-nae or Seoul-Taek-byul-shi) is around Itaewon, Jungno, Myong dong, Dongdaemun, Hannam, Bogwang dong, Namdaemun, basically around the center of the north of the city, which is also called Gangbuk

Rents in this area are alot more cheaper than in Gangnam, but it would be hell trying to find a good realtor

So far I think my friends prefer Hongdae. Would it be about the same to either Hongdae or Itaewon? That's not bad at all and with a cab full of friends that's hardly any cost at all.

Gangnam is not a suburb of Seoul. It is a district within the city of Seoul.

I live in Gangnam right now...fairly close to Gangnam Station on Line 2 on a subway map. It takes about 10 minutes in good traffic to get to Itaewon from here. That's about 3-4,000 Won in a taxi. The subway takes too long, but is cheaper.

However, you'll probably find that the nightlife in the area around Gangnam Station is pretty good anyway. I rarely go to Itaewon now.

Another spot to check out once you have yourself sort of oriented and want to weigh pros and cons of living in different areas - use this for pretty accurate commute/travel times via subway.

A good scrollable map of Seoul in english. You need IE. And you need to install some infernal OCX or whatever it is MS calls it these days. But it doesn't seem to monkey up your computer. I use it regularly.

There is plenty of nightlife, restaurants, and places to hang in Kangnam. It is one of the trendiest spots in Seoul. You may feel like hitting some other spots in town, but you don't have to leave Kangnam to find some fun.
