I'm on a mission:
I want to compile a definitive list of volunteer opportunities in South Korea.
Are you active in one of more? Aware of any? Can you direct me to a website or community organizer?
Whatever information you have, please share. You can pm me, post, whatevs. My desire is to collect an array of volunteer opportunities and make this information readily, easily available to those who want to serve.
Any help - or direction - you can provide is much appreciated. |

If you are a foreinger, make sure you register with the government before you volunteer as it is now considered "illegal" to volunteer without registering. I'd post the info about how to register if I had it with me at the moment, but I don't. Hopefully someone will chime in. If not, I'll find it later and post it. |

You will be deported if Immigration finds out. They make no distinction about "working." For money or not doesn't matter. You're working. |

If you want a list that includes specific information like addresses and contacts would you please post without using an anonymous identity and provide references who can confirm your intentions? Given recent bizarre happenings in Korea I doubt many of us who are involved in such thing will want to provide information to just anyone over the Internet. Thanks. |

What kinds of bizarre happenings are these? I'm quite ignorant. Fill me in. |

Volunteers (mostly in orphanages) have been subjected to scrutiny by immigration for violations of the terms of their status of sojourn. Some have been threatened (warned not politely) to stop or they may face an immigration tribunal, cancelation of their work visa and deportation.
A few people who were working as volunteer advocates for DDD workers have actually been detained for questioning, had stop orders issued, and in one instance had their visa revoked and an exit order issued.
Volunteering is a violation of the terms of your status of sojourn if you do not get permission from the immigration office BEFORE you begin working as a volunteer. |
