| I have a friend here who's addicted to WoW and he's always begging me to find other people in the same timezone who play. |

I've always wondered about the term "addicted" when applied to WoW. I have played in the past, but I was never addicted. Of course, I didn't play if I had something better to do or the weather was nice enough to go outside and do something. If a game is fun, and you enjoy playing it, does that make you addicted? Are golfers who play as much as they can addicted to golf?
I don't understand how someone can become addicted to a game. |

A lot of Australians play WoW. I would go through the server forums on WoW site and find "unofficial Aussie server".
That way you can play with Australians who will be on when you will.
Oh yeah, you can't play WoW in internet cafe's (pc bangs). they have Korean WoW installed and they don't recognize US/EU accounts. |

You can't play in a PC Bang here because it'll have the Korean version of WoW. I bought the American version of WoW here, at Yongsan, and had no trouble playing it on my laptop either here or when I went back to the States on vacation. I'm sure your WoW will work fine. It's not too hard at all to get an Internet connection at your house.
as for people being online at the wrong times... I actually like that, because it means less competition for resources. If you're seriously into raiding or something, you might struggle a bit more, but you can always join an Oceanic server or look around for an Australian guild to play with. |

Are you kidding me? lol... my advice for you is to look beyond the stereotype. Computer games are not for geeks and losers. 8 Million people play WoW and I can assure you that they are not all like that. |
8 million people pretend to be warlocks, gobblins and elves.....Im sure they are all super cool.

I wouldnt expect any less. |
And putting down other people on the computer makes you cool? |

| One thing I'm curious about is if you can connect to the US servers from over here. I tried to play WoW here when they offered a free trial and it wouldn't let me connect to any servers. |
If you have an English copy of the game, you can connect to American and Oceanic servers. Problem is that when you want to play, everyone from back home will be asleep. |
That's weird. I downloaded the English version off their website during the promotion thing and tried logging on three different days, just to make sure I wasn't trying to connect during server downtime. Oh well, no big loss I guess. |

Thats awesome guys thanks a ton for all your responses!
We have a ton of Australians in my guild... and if they want to play with the majority of the people they just have to get up early rather than play at night =) One of the main reasons why I play is because of my guild that I have been in for two years. I don't think that it would be the same if I changed servers cause of the time change. Offtimes are also good for places being less crowded =)
Thats a really good idea of telling my employer. I am going to email him today and ask if he could do that for me. Again, thanks for all the wicked responses! |

Well, you can get around that by downloading an MPQ editor to change some variables in the data files, and then change the realmlist.wtf file to country code 1 for US (I believe, I haven't done it lately). The latter may be all that is needed, it will vary. I reset everything once I leave the computer, because if I didn't it'd mess up anyone who wanted to log into Korean servers on that PC. The game will still have mostly Korean text which will make it difficult to read zone names, player classes, quest text and so on, but if your computer is out of commission for some reason, there is still the PC bang option.
I was concerned about keyloggers as well, but after downloading some software to the computer in the pc room and running checks, I was satisfied that there wasn't a problem (with the specific computer I was working on). |

So whats the deal with WOW? I played Ultima online for a very short time until my friends forcibly stopped me:)
I tend to be a bit obsessive when it comes to games of any kind, either in real life of online.
Its pretty popular here and will give you mountains of material for conversation classes I'm sure. |

I've been addicted to games in the past. I played golf pretty much every day in the summer when I was around 15/16 and was also seriously addicted to snooker. Snooker is still the only thing from home that I really really miss. At christmas I played like every day for a couple of hours. I tend to like gambling on sport and games which may indicate an addictive personality.
In the realm of computer games, I tend to get into sport sims alot. Championship manager(now football manager) definitly ate alot of high school life.At the minute I play Front Office Football(american football sim) alot.
So maybe I just get really into things. On the plus side I did quit smoking a couple of years ago. |

Right on! Indeed, the World is much more than a fairytale. It's guns, bombs, jihad, intolerance, suicide bombers, plots to blow up my hometown, genocide, blind eyes, hunger, greed, enslavement, corporate control, alienation...So get out and enjoy it.
