Well, it looks like Ahmadinejihadabad is up to his old tricks again, just itching to pick a fight with the British and Americans in the Persian Gulf rather than scratching his ragged beard:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070323/ap_on_re_eu/british_seized_iran

So will this, too, pass as another tempest in a tea pot? Or do you think this time the Iranian government might hold out?

Is this just another attempt by the Revolutionary Navy to assert its claim to territorial waters (despite not having the balls to intercept the British sailors' frigate) or could this become Falklands, Part 2?

Good for Iran, its about time, I doubt the RN's claim that they didn't violate Iran's water. The RN and USN both have long histories of violating Iran's territoral waters. I dare, no I double dare the "coalition of the willing" to attack Iran. That would be quite a show.

If they'd wanted to provoke somethng nasty they would have taken Americans. They chose their target carefully, I'd say.

Or, is this the next Tonkin?

Not only to the US if you are american, but to the human race because terrorists and extemist dictatorss dont care about nationality

How come I'm supposed to believe the US but automatically denounce Iran. I will say it again for those of you who are clearly blinded by the union jack or stars and stripes. Both the US and the UK have a history of violating Iran's territoral waters. Saddam used water as an excuse to start the Iran-Iraq war (which the US gave him weapons and other assistance to conduct). The US even violated the Iranians water and shot down a passenger jet, a clear violation of international aviation law and a war crime.

So, if the US and the UK have lost all their credibility, why should anyone believe them? Just because I disagree with the Iranians politically and religiously doesn't automatically make them liars.

Guess you have not listened to the news lately. A high Iranian official with intimate knowledge of the Iranian Government "disappeared" in Turkey. He defected. It has been in the news that the Iranians would like to "kidnap" some American soldiers for an exchange.

The Iranians were looking for some Western hostages to trade.

Now they have their wish.

NAVFC, visit the Wizard of Oz, eh? First, if OH is American, the comment you highlighted can't be considered treasonous: the people taken were not American.

Second, stating your country os wrong is not treasonous. Supporting and helping the enemy or harming your own nation is treason.

However, I don't know OH, so who the hell knows? Regardless, you really need to get down that YBR.

This is exactly right, Octavius. As an active democratic citizen, you ought to hold your (actually, in this case not yours or mine but rather Britishers' -- but that is unimportant) government's feet to the fire and insist on accountability.

What were this ship's orders, where exactly was it, where were its boats, and what were they doing when the Iranians grabbed these sailors and Royal Marines?

Good, honest questions.

But you are too eager to kneel before Tehran ("Good for Iran," you cheered, remember?) and accept its officials' public statements uncritically and at face value.

And I have some additional questions of my own: where exactly were the British boats and crews, who ordered Iranian forces to seize this crew, and why -- were they looking to kidnap hostages, as another poster suggests? Did they consciously do this in traditionally Iraqi-controlled waters?

This is potentially an act of war, by the way -- not unlike storming and seizing a foriegn government's embassy or kidnapping and then ransoming its citizens for arms. And however you may view this and the other incidents I reference here, I think people ought to lay all of these facts on the table before going any further...

So, the old gopher, rather than the scum sucking pig we've come to know since the elections, is back?

Welcome back, boy. Can you keep it up, or is there too much scum in your veins?

1. Iran had no real reason to take those Brits. We can all acknowledge that.

2. Depending on the location of the ship, they may have had a technical right to, but no real reason. The borders are disputed and the Brits almost certainly were following the Iraqi's claims of th border, not the Iranians. Who knows? Got GPS?

So, this is politics and bullshit, no matter how you look at it.

Oh Steve, just get on with it and start your rant how it's all the liberals fault. I suppose you'll drag out some Michelle Malkin column to prove yourself. Come on do it....I dare you!

Octavius Maximus in Error:

Both ABC News and CNN International reported that the British were NOT in disputed Iranian waters but Iraqi waters at the time of the seizure. If you'd bothered to read the Yahoo article at the link you'd have known this.

But of course as a rabid leftist you gave the Iranians the benefit of the doubt first. What a surprise. Rolling Eyes

Bet the clueless contingent of EFLinTraining, Dr. Hite, and CheeseforBrainsDave would have been ENRAGED had the seizure been against Iranian vessels for interfering in a naval operation against smugglers which has been going on for nearly a decade.

And that, I'd say, was precisely what I predicted would be the reaction from these knee-jerk Pavlov foaming-at-the-mouth dogs.

By the way, this is not the first time the Iranians have violated international sea treaties: they did it before, also against the Royal Marines, in 2004.

That's the best thing you've got..cheeseforbrains? Your pathetic Steve, I've told you over and over again I'm not from Milwaukee. You really need to go ask your university for a refund.

For all the name calling you do and then turn around and act totally disgusted with the fact people call you conservative, you should really have gotten a Oscar this year.
