Teacher of mine got rejected today for including in his resume some work he did outside of past visa sponsorships.
I missed it on the resume, the employer (Canadian expat) missed it, but some lil' do gooder at IMMI picked it up!
Picture the smallest of men revelling in his own little domain of power over the world.
Not real sure what will happen though deportation has been loosely mentioned.
Wouldn't mind hearing if anyone else has had some experiences with giving a CREDIBLE excuse for this to IMMI or if you have heard of other people getting canned because of this.

Why don't you pass it off as 'language exchange'? Have your teacher contact the ex-private and brief them on the story and then tell Immi to go and call the private to corroborate the excuse?

Why doesn't he say the privates were through his school? Then they are legal.

Umm...isn't THAT immigration's job(part of it anyway)...to weed out illegal workers?

I fail to fathom why anyone would mention outside work...to any government agency.

Why not plea ignorance and act humble...judging from past stories on this site, that seems to go over big with immigration.

I'm confused. If you hired this guy, and he's working now, why is immigration just now reviewing his file? You mentioned that he might get fired or deported. Is he applying for an E-2? How is working if immigration hasn't approved him yet (or how did he get in the country)? Doesn't immigration usually approve the resume thing before you enter the country? Or, did he have to submit a new resume when changing jobs?

In any case, isn't the procedure that your boss takes the immigration guy to dinner and arranges suitable compensation to overlook this minor transgression? (you know, bribe him)

It sounds to me me that the teacher was already in Korea and was trying to get a new job. How else would have he done privates here?

yeah he has been here for a few years and was applying for a new E2. He had been here on a tourist visa between jobs.
Anyway Immi has asked him to leave asap and seem not be listening to much from anyone.
Turns out that this WAS actually a language exchange and no money was handed over...nothing can be proved though I guess.
The guy just wacked it on the resume to impress his future employer with experience in that age group.
I have never seen IMMI go this hard at someone before for this kind of indiscretion so I can only imagine that the prospective school had had some trouble with IMMI in the past. Teacher maybe being punished for the school's past.
Complete shame. You would have a beer with this teacher. He was a good guy.
Our only chance tomorrow is having the previous "school" or whatever it was, call IMMI and explain that it was only a language exchange, the teacher was just trying to impress a future employer, has never done anything wrong, we are very sorry, I prostate myself at your magnificence..etc etc.
Hope it works out for him...

If that's not the ticket, nothing is.
