A teacher at my middle school asked me to teach her son, but I told her I can't because I'm too busy right now. I've heard it's common for teachers to ask the english teacher to tutor their children, but how do you keep this private? Would it be possible to teach in one of the classrooms and make it legal? I know it's possible to do this in a hagwon, but what about a public school? The last thing I want is Ms. Kim/Lee/Pak telling all the other teachers that I teach her kid and then one of them reporting me, so I'd like to keep everything legit

I am a bit confused.

Do you want to avoid it?
Simply tell them that it is a violation of your current contract and is illegal under immigration laws. Word will quickly spread and no0-one will ask you again.

Do you want to do it and avoid problems?
Do it in the school. No-one will question you chatting with another teacher or their child in the school.

If the child is a student in the school, then you are just being a teacher (even if you get some favor for your extra attention).

I want to legally do it, hopefully in the school so I don't have to sneak away to the teacher's apartment and worry about other teachers finding out.

Legally speaking I'm just wondering if it's legal to teach kids in a public school, after school has finished.

우리. WOORI (not worry). One of ours, us, we.

Do it in the school. No-one will question you chatting with another teacher or their child in the school. The child is one of ours (family of staff or student in the school). You are just being a teacher (even if you get some favor for your extra attention at a later time Wink ).

No-one will think twice about it, unless they also want the same favor.

The mothers won't complain because it is the child of a staff member.

Don't teach privates to NON-staff kids or you will open a huge can of worms.

At the begging of last semester my co-teacher ask me if I would like a classroom set up so I could teach privates. I got the impression the last FT was doing it regularly. I declined because I enjoyed the free time. Let the Korean teacher set the whole thing up.

I can't find my *beep* you smiley I know it's around here somewhere

I was interested since the basic overtime rate at a PS is 20,000 were you going to go higher than this or feel that you had to stick to this because it was within your school.

If it was for 20,000 I'd pass on the job. 40,000 and I'd consider it. The only thing holding me up would be the ramifications I might face if I were to get in trouble. I wasn't lying when I told her I'm too busy, and as of right now I'm probably not going to pursue this

I've thought about this.

If it went through the books I presume it's all above board but if it goes directly into my pocket then I imagine that I'm breaking the terms of my contract and could suffer the consequences.

I wondered if it was a good idea to get the principal to start a Saturday morning classes try and negotiate a rise in the hourly rate and put it through the books so I wasn't cheating.

Not sure if that is legit or not.
