I have developed a touch of the black circles under the eyes, and am wondering what the cause of this could be. Admittedly, my sleep schedule could be better, but even when I sleep to my heart's content they don't completely go away.

Is it cigs and drinking-related? Vitamin deficiency?

I would appreciate some ideas on how I can make them go away. I am otherwise in good shape (basically), so there must be something I am doing or not doing. And maybe others have this situation or know about this?

Help a fellow EFL-er, and feel good. Thanks.

i've read that there are several varieties of this condition.

lack of sleep can cause this, but that variety will go away with adequate sleep.

the allergic kind is more tricky because you need to figure out what exactly is causing the vessels under your eye to expand or pool blood; and that varries with the individual.

the most likely cause is genetic and aging. i developed my dark circles about mid-twenties and have tried many things to get rid of it with little success.

however, i've been exercising regularly and trying to maintain a healthier/blanced diet. although, i still have the dark circles, it has gotten slightly better, mostly due to the improved palor of my skin overall.

just sharing my personal experience...
goodluck.

p.s. i quite smoking a year ago.

Assuming it's not genetic.. I knew an entire family when I was a kid that was like that naturally. Used to freak me out because they had 5 kids.

Allergies or sinus infection are likely.

You're getting older.

I could stay up for 48 hours when I was 21 and not get black circles. Now I'm 38, they're just kind of there all the time despite sleeping 7-8 hours every night.

I found my general diet makes a BIG difference. My circles aren't black but a kinda purple. As soon as I start eating more vegetables and less snacks, boom, gone in less than a week.

It's not always an age thing though. I knew a girl in high school who had them.

A good facial massage will do wonders for the black circles.

I always had black circles, and my sisters and mom have dark circles as well. With that being said, my sleeping schedule isn't the greatest, but I do manage +8 on most nights.
Last wednesday, I bought an eye cream from the Body Shop, which was horribly overpriced, just to see if it works. I've used it once everyday and no improvement yet....
