If it's less than four months, what work is your university having you do during vacation time? |

I get 6 weeks minimum. I have the "option" to work for my uni during the summer/winter. I guess we will see how optional it really is. There are always summer programs at other universities that pay guest lecturers much better than what I would make doing "overtime" with my school. I'll probably go that route. |

I never work. They just pay me a wage, and give me an apartment.
I get to come to meetings at my leisure, and tell them why I think things suck here, and what they should do about it.
In truth, I get about 2 1/2 months off total per year between the two semesters. They ask me to work/strongly encourage me to teach either summer or winter classes. They only last 2 weeks, so I am happy to do it and make some extra money. |

I hope this time off is sufficient to rejuvenate you from your horrendous weekly work schedule... |

You work for Hongdae? Heard some of you guys had wage reductions because they overhired. |

Five months off...2.5 in the summer and same in the winter.
No winter camps (b/c they are given to the guy who has been here the longest), but that suits me just fine.
Did I mention that I only work 3 days a week?
I love my job. |

There's supposedly a trend among universities of reducing vacation to one month and keeping their teachers around during "vacations" to work the university's camps so they don't have to hire and pay outside teachers. That's a big cheat for the teachers, though, who not only lose months of vacation but also the opportunity to do camps elsewhere for a real wage. |

Oh, so because I get 2 1/2 months off, I shouldn't complain about the days I have to teach 9 hours of class?
I suppose you'd consider it good for the students to have a teacher who has just finished 8 hours of teaching? Don't you suppose that would make the teacher a bit less effective? |

If my university ever tried to squeeze me like that, it would take a lot to convince me not to quit. I've already earned over a million dollars in tuition for them since I've been there. Luckily, I can honestly say that they would never do that. The administration gets out of its way let us know that it appreciates the work we do. |
