Im thinking about shelling out $370 on an arranged hiking trip to North Korea through adventurekorea.com

Has anyone done this trip, is it worth the money. I've heard you don't exactly geta 'taste' for North Korea. Most of the time you spend hiking in the mountains away from civilization. Is this true??

Any advice would be great before i book it.

i have a number of friends who have done it. you get a teeny introduction to the .0001 percent of NK people who enjoy life, and you get to 1. say you've been to NK, and 2. get to see some cool mountains.

what the hell, do it. if you really want to see NK, do the tours that start in beijing.

That sounds totally wicked. I've always wanted to make it into North Korea. Does anyone know if they still run tours from Manchuria into North Korea? The reports from that, while mixed, all agreed it was a true experience.

I liked it. Although you do stay in an artificial designated tourist zone.
You will see real NK soldiers and see some of the few North Korean people who do actually enjoy life. The mountains are very nice to hike, but they were a bit packed when I went.

If you are a US citizen, touring in N. Korea from China is not a possibility (from what I understand). The N. Korea trip w/ Adventure Korea may be your best bet.

I hear the "city" you see is a farce, just set up to make the country look nice.

I was considering going, but after I learned it's pretty set up, I'll take my $370 to Jejudo or Busan...or China.

I think I would have moral issues with paying to go to North Korea. Would you?

yep in total agreement with the last poster. I would have more moral issues with going to the states.
North Korea, as we know it, doesn't have many years left. 10-20 years perhaps? Anyplace described as a "stalinistic themepark" must be worth checking out.

Will they show any live executions on the trip. If not, it still does sound like an interesting trip. Anyhow, America will be soon buying things made in North Korea due to the FTA signing.

to those of you Americans who would like to visit the fraternal order of communists to the North it is possible without the fake nork trip offered by Adventure Korea.
Americans are being allowed to go on tours to Pyongyang and to see all the great sites, the juche tower, the peoples study hall, the hotel that looks like a pyramid, everything.
You can book through Kyoro tour, the state company, exeter, a british outfit based in Beijing, or a dutch company whos name escapes me. Americans are being allowed in for the mass games in August and throughout the summer, you just have to pay a shi*t ton more than a non us passport holder.

ive looked into getting into n.korea through a tour in bejing. only problem is its about $2000! cheers for the help
