Well, Nancy Pelosi, the clueless rep from clueless liberal California, not only ignored the White House but also the State Department, as the latter revealed today.

And now this major snafu:

Quote:
Herb Keinon, THE JERUSALEM POST Apr. 5, 2007

The Prime Minister's Office issued a rare "clarification" Wednesday that, in gentle diplomatic terms, contradicted US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's statement in Damascus that she had brought a message from Israel about a willingness to engage in peace talks.

According to the statement, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert emphasized in his meeting with Pelosi on Sunday that "although Israel is interested in peace with Syria, that country continues to be part of the Axis of Evil and a force that encourages terror in the entire Middle East."

Olmert, the statement clarified, told Pelosi that Syria's sincerity about a genuine peace with Israel would be judged by its willingness to "cease its support of terror, cease its sponsoring of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad organizations, refrain from providing weapons to Hizbullah and bringing about the destabilizing of Lebanon, cease its support of terror in Iraq, and relinquish the strategic ties it is building with the extremist regime in Iran."

The statement said Olmert had not communicated to Pelosi any change in Israeli policy on Damascus.

"We were very pleased with the reassurances we received from the president [Assad] that he was ready to resume the peace process. He was ready to engage in negotiations for peace with Israel," Pelosi said after meeting Assad....[That same old naive wishful liberal thinking]

With friends like Nancy, who needs enemies? She's one duped dame.

out of curiosity, why is she clueless? I'm not trying to start a fight, just curious as to why you think she's clueless.

Steve, just how much do you understand of Middle Eastern politics.
You misunderstood what Prime Minister Olmert said. He didn't say that he didn't have something to communicate to Damascus. He simply said that Israel is communicating the message it has communicated before to Syria, and that is "We will deal with you when you stop backing Hamas and Hezbollah". Essentially, Israel is saying that Damascus' talk must parlay into action. You simply misunderstood Olmert. She communicated Israel's position. Henry Waxman was with her, and he is a friend of Israel. So, yes, Israel's message was communicated. You just didn't understand it.

I've lived there, I've studied and followed it for decades and the Israeli PM is pissed off but doesn't want to make big waves with a reliable ally. Go read the news for yourself.

You're beginning to sound like one of Pelosi's more amorous pages.

*smirks*

Steve, since you know so much about Israel, what is Olmert's approval rating right now?

Quote:
Olmerts trajectory in the polls is similar to a man who has taken a tumble off a skyscraper and is just inches from hitting the pavement. Olmerts approval rating is down to 2%, according to the latest polls.

I'd say he safely understands at least 2% of it. Laughing

Really, chaver? How do you know? I could say the same that I studied it for decades, but I could say I studied since I could read. You forget who was with Pelosi. Do the names Tom Lantos and Henry Waxman ring a bell? Tom Lantos is a Hungarian-American Jew and Waxman is also Jewish.
This was discussed before they went. The politicians in Yisrael knew what Pelosi was doing. Tel Aviv simply reiterated its position "We won't deal with you as long as you are helping Hamas and Hezbollah kill Israelis and that Israel wants peace, but they are suspicious of Damascus".
It means Damascus has a lot of work to do from the Israeli point of view.
That is a translation of what Prime Minister Olmert was saying. He was not criticizing Pelosi; he was criticizing Bashar Al Assad. This is normal politics in that area. Taking things literally is like taking a woman's words literally all the time. Again, Tom Lantos and Waxman are staunch supporters of the Jewish state. Have no fear, Pelosi was there with their blessing.

En passant, Pelosi has strong ties to Israel and grew up in a neighborhood that was heavily Jewish.

clueless liberal California,

what happens in CA ends up happening throughout the country later on.

If it is so clueless, how is it a trend setter?

And way to make something out of nothing (again).

Oh cut the clueless liberal crap. There are many more clueless conservatives out there. By the way, many more people have died under the leadership of conservatives. Who is right?

It is funny how Steve goes on and on about clueless liberals. So many of us have heard that George Bush had no idea about the difference between Sunni and Shiite before sending out the orders for invading Iraq.
If the GOP was so much in the know and the liberals were clueless, then explain the mess in the Middle East. The liberals had no hand in that. It was the neo-conservatives. The moderates in the State Department sounded all these warnings, but they were treated as if they were "naive and clueless".

Kuros:

Doesn't matter if he's unpopular; what matters is what he actually said. He's still the PM, so your comment is irrelevant.

Adventurer:

The problem is that Pelosi gave Assad the impression that Olmert was offering something new when in fact as even you note that was not the case. Are you obtuse?

California is a trend-setter for other clueless liberals who reside elsewhere. No one in the upper Midwest where I come from takes them seriously.

Oh boy! I grew up in an area that was "heavily Hispanic." Does that mean I can go to Mexico and pretend that I'm in charge of diplomacy with them?
