Anybody been following this? I'm a fan of Don Imus and yeah some of his stuff can be bad though a lot of the time its downright hillarious (try and find his speech at the White House Correspondents dinner in 1995 or 1996 I forget which year, it'll put you on the floor)

Well the I man is in trouble this week for what he said about the Rutgers womens hoops team last week and he should be. My problem is the hypocracy of people in the African-American Community like Al Sharpton etc demanding he be fired. Yet these "leaders" refuse to look in their own community and castigate rappers etc who make the same if not more vile remarks about african-american women. These people have a far greater impact on the attitudes towards women the african-american community than an old white radio host.

I'm sick of the double standard here.

Double standards? You realize of course one key feature to "correct" political censorship is that outsiders are denied the right to criticize the "OTHER".

e.g. Only gays are allowed to knock ( poke fun at gays ), only niggas can criticize other niggas, only women are thought to have to right to freely express their critical views of other old broads, etc etc.

If I hear one more person talk about the "pain" and "scarring" his remarks casued I will vomit.

He jokingly - or perhaps even half-jokingly, called the Rutgers women's basketball team a bunch of "nappy headed hos".

How does that scar anyone for life? It isn't even a personalized insult that could really be that biting.

Well MSNBC has decided to give in and drop simulcasting the I man because of all of this.

I'm getting sick of all the black leaders (Sharpton etc and even Al Roker) who are pressuring NBC and CBS to drop Imus when they are DOING NOTHING to pressure radio stations etc from playing black hip hop and rap artists who call women "ho's" encourages the raping of women and violence in the black community, use the "n" work frequently. Songs like these do more to denregate women and black women than any off handed remark by a 66 year old white dj whose auidence MAY be around 3 million people

I'm not being racist, just calling a hypocite a hypocrite when I see one.

I think calling a bunch of black women nappy headed hoes isn't funny in anyway, shape or form. It's a pretty awful comment, actually.

Black hypocrisy is more than a valid comment, though. I think the black community needs to take one good long look in the mirror at what goes on in rap videos and lyrics before they get up in arms over this, though that does not mean they can't comment on this incident.

Maybe more importantly, is the fact that this comment is getting Imus in such hot water when Limbaugh, Papa Bear et al routinely say much worse things about all kinds of different groups on their shows, and they get applauded for it and book deals. That's a far more pressing matter to me. I think this also shows the level of bigotry facing gays in the US, since you can essentially say anything you want about them, including calling them derogatory names, and still get press appearances galore and book deals, while this comment, as bad as it is, gets this kind of reaction.... something is pretty messed up.

I saw it today on YouTube.

Before I saw it, I gave Imus the benefit of the doubt. That is, until I saw the clip.

It was flat out racism. People should be offended.

The "double-standard" excuse? It doesn't fly with the comments he made or the way that he made them.

Teh guy (imus) can't be that stupid that he wouldn't expect a reaction for his comments. He's a good old country boy from down south (is that correct) you would have to be a complete tool to not see the difference between a "good old boy" saying what he said and a young black urban hip hop star talking about niggas. What dug the grave for him even more in my book was how he reacted after the girls were interviewed, he said he was surprised at how "articulate" they were, what did he expect from college students? ebonics?

BTW rudyflyer, you can't say "i'm not being racist" thats for others to decide. Don't worry, for now you aren't, your just being a bitter, old, white man who is apparently pissed at not being able to call blacks "niggers" and women "ho's".

Imus has publically stated that the "official" 911 story is a fraud?

Is this true?

Was just reading someone's speculation that THIS is the real reason the "PC" language police are hoping to see him thoroughly crucified.
