He's lame as a K-1 fighter, but perfect for the WWE (if he can improve his English enough). The guy can't fight, but he is freaky enough to be in show business. |

Well, Choi is scheduled to make his MMA debut June 2 against former WWE (and NCAA) Champion, Brock Lesnar, at the LA Colosium.
...Lesnar said that in spite of Choi's size, he is encouraged by the style match-up and asserts, "They couldn't have picked an easier opponent for me."...
The June 2 show will be the American debut for Japanese kickboxing and MMA outfit K1. At a news conference Tuesday, K1 announced an organizational alliance with many other fighting companies including Elite XC, Bodog Fight, Strike Force, Cage Rage and Korean promotion Spirit. These organizations will need to demonstrate collective strength in order to compete with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, which now also controls Pride Fighting Championships.
Dynamite USA will feature a unique promotional arrangement. At 9 p.m., Showtime and Elite XC will televise a one-hour fight card including fights with Jake Shields, Antonio Silva and Gina Carano. Then at 10 p.m., there will be a live pay-per-view event headlined by Lesnar vs. Choi. Also fighting on the pay-per-view will be MMA legend Royce Gracie and former USC and Detroit Lion standout Johnnie Morton. The rest of the card has not been filled out, but promoter Sadaharu Tanikawa mentioned the names of Kazushi Sakuraba, Yoshihiro Akiyama, Katsuhiko Nagata and Caol Uno.
When asked about facing the daunting task of filling a 100,000-seat arena, Tanikawa said the promotion would draw on the large Korean and Japanese communities in Southern California. He predicted that the promotion will fill the Coliseum.
Mauro Ranallo, Bill Goldberg and Jay Glazer will do commentary for both the Showtime special and the pay-per-view. To promote the event, Showtime will air six individual specials at 8:30 on Monday nights, beginning April 30...

I personally hope that Choi wins, 'cause Lesnar is a real jerk... |

Eh, he could probably make a living, but he doesn't have enough charisma or English to really do anything. Those foreign big men always seem to fail. |

Thats because they suck as wrestlers. Its the skill of looking like you're beating someone up. They can never fake it |

I predict that if Hongman beats Brock Lesnar before a huge crowd in LA, the WWE will make him a very big offer, and within two years he'll be featured in a major pay-per-view "Battle of the Giants" against Great Khali ...
Reportedly, the corporation wants to expand internationally and have separate WWE branded companies in Asia, Europe, and Mexico. Signing Choi would practically establish the franchise in Korea ... |

Can you imagine the amount of cash that the WWE would make in Korea? |

I was thinking the same thing. Merchandising and Pay-per-view is wrestling's two cash cows. Merchandising being the bigger of the two. |

'Selling' moves is the biggest skill involved in wrestling.
if he is as lame a fighter as you remark then this would have to be brought upto scratch before he was even a contender for Velocity or Heat nevermind the flagship shows. Mind you, the state the WWE is in these days who knows..... He can only be an improvement on MVP imo.

Put him in the ring with the Great Khali.
And Andre the Giant did OK for himself. |

They put Khali in squash matches to sell his size and strength (both of which are impressive). Then they put a mic in front of his face and he loses a lot of credibility in the eyes of fans because he can't speak coherently.
Giant Silva and Giant Gonzales also come to mind as one-dimensional foreign big men. |

Most WWE wrestlers don't have great mic skills these days.
Khali's no worse than, say, Umaga in that regard.
The problem with Khali is more lack of charisma and lack of moves. |

Never going to happen. Lesnar is a wrestler/grappler and Choi is a big slow goof who's going to get destroyed by Lesnar's speed. It won't be the stand-up fight that Choi is used to. |

Especially if they do intend to cater to the Koreans specifically--the scripts would practically write themselves. He could set fire to himself in some elaborate mock-globalization protest before he jumps from the top rope. |
