So the wife and I were on the way to Choonjoopalooza last night when we got in a taxi down there. Well, could you believe it? There was a TV set on the dashboard with some stupid soap operah playing that the driver was rivetted to.

Now, I'm not even going to mention the evils of soap operahs, so don't get me started Wink. But to have a freckin TV on the dashboard is just sick!! That's all we need is more cabbies that lack peripheral vision, staying up most of the day hacking it, and watching TV while they're driving. Are there any laws against such stupidity? (end of rant)

BTW, Choongjoopalooza was the bomb!! What a blast! Anyone else go? Any photos?

You're acting as if this is something new...most of the cabs I've taken here have those dashboard TV's in them...Most of the civilian cars I've seen have them too.
I'm assuming since so many people have them, they are legal. Safe, no friggin' way, but legal, yup.

I had the same experience but I think if you look closely there is usually a notice on that says something to the effect of 'don't watch while driving' of course the cabbies ignore this but it is probably not strictly legal. As the laws that pertain to road safety are never enforced, they get away with it.

Why is it whenever I go to Busan and grab a taxi after dark, I always get the guy who sees me and automatically shoves in a porn DVD? "Dude, I'm with my girlfriend and her sister! Do you mind turning that off?"

Just tell them to turn it off and if they don't find another taxi. Every time I have asked they complied.

Being one for personal freedom, I don't care if the cabbie watches TV as he drives as long as he does so responsibly. I'd laugh if the guy put in porn for me and my girl, espcecially the funny Korean kind.

I think that the guy who's weaving in and out of Seoul traffic, ignoring the red lights, driving far too fast, and lacking seatbelts in the back that I can use to keep myself from dying should he crash, should be focused on the road and not the TV.

But I'm a little addicted to using everything below my neck, so I admit to bias.

It's a slap in their (and your) faces. He thinks they're easy because they're with foreigners. He's dreaming he'll get to have fun with one of them.

So are there any rules about this? If so, are they ever enforced?

Oh sure, but if he thinks there's gonna be some (cue the porn music: chicky-chicky-bowow) fourway action in his near future, he is SORELY mistaken. I don't share my girl or her sister with anyone.
