Just curious...do any of you get to pick your own class schedules, or are you just handed the schedule and told "Tough!" if you don't like it? Our school is open to schedule suggestions (at least a little bit), but we can not directly pick and choose what we want.
Anyways I'm not complaining, just wondering if ANYONE here is able to make their own hours. A former coworker's biggest gripe about here was that he could not choose his own class times and I want to know if ANYONE is able to do that. |

I have never heard of any job that lets you choose when you want to work. My school lets us request hours, but they are not guaranteed. However now that I've got 3 years there, I pretty much have been getting what I ask for. |

I have finally got my univeristy to give me the evening division classes, (with one afternoon class) so what did they do when the Foreign language institute classes where handed out? They gave me a 10:10 in the morning three times a week, along with afternoon and evening institute classes too. Yeah, I know... but it is this kind of c r a p py planning, after 5 years on the job that makes me really wonder about the people in charge here.

The uni I was at for the last two years, we'd sit down before each semester with the boss, and play 'ok let's make this work out for everyone', after he'd roughed out a tentative schedule. He was a good guy to work for, most assuredly.
There were only three of us waeguk-in, though, so it was pretty easy. Four day weeks rocked. |

we pretty much get told when we are going to teach, though I asked the grad assistant in the English Dept who makes the scedule not to give us a 4:30-5:45 class on T-Fr (our classes meet M-TH or Tue-Fri) and not to schedule me at our other campus across town. She did that for me and my wife, means I'm done at 2:45P on Fridays with Weds off from univ classes
We also have the option to decline hogwon classes if we are at 18 hours/week I do one since it pays 30k/hour and they are upper level so I'm done at 8:30A on Weds.
And we are thinking of leaving this job? More to life than easy schedules |

Our only option is a Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday schedule or a Tuesday/Thursday/Friday schedule. Given that it's only three days a week nobody really cares which schedule they get. |

I work 3 days a week and can pretty well choose my own schedule. Though, the uni discourages t,w,th, due to people gpoin away on their long weekends and getting stranded and not being able to get back to work the following Tues. (yes, it happened to a few morons in the past).
I work m, t, th. the T.A. comes at the end of the semester and asks when we want to work (fill out a form, actually). They'll usually say yes if there are classes available. All in all, i work 4 hours a day, 3 days per week. The commute is long, but they're fairly high level students. I love my job!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I didn't get to pick my own, but with a good deal of griping (on our part and the students) the schedule has been greatly improved this semester.
If it's really crappy, you don't have to just accept it forever. But letting us choose our own schedules that might be giving foriegners too much freedom! Scary! |

At my uni we don't get to pick our own classes or times, but they are very accomodating. Last semester I didn't have a writing class and I went to the English dept. to change my class. The ladies were really kind and said no problem. |
