| At least 200 people were killed by bombings in Iraq in the last 48 hours. To me that's far worse and much more significant than the killings at Virginia Tech. |
Absolutely. Some horrific loss of innocent lives there in the past 2 days.

whoever killed the Iraqis needs to write more pedophiliac fratricidal one act plays and mail more 1,800 word manifestos to CNN if they want to compete with this fool.
That's why terrorists try to kill not as efficiently as possible, but as sensationally as possible. They need to beat the run-of-the-mill industrial accidents in the morning's news.
And whoever said that the method of death doesn't matter is completely, totally, wildly wrong about life, the universe, and everything. The manner and/or method of death is the ONLY thing that matters! If you say "someone died during the time I was speaking just now" you would be correct, and also very boring. People are dying all the time and its the most mundane fact of existence. But if 72 people were hit by the SAME STRIKE OF LIGHTNING then by god there's going to be words written about it. |

Here's a funny joke so we have something to laugh at other than Svetlana:
Bono, whilst playing a gig in Glasgow, got the whole crowd to be silent and then began slowly clapping his hands. He got the crowd to clap along for a while, the stadium quiet except for the rhythmic clapping...
After a short period Bono spoke, saying that everytime he clapped his hands a child in Africa died...
Suddenly, from the front row of the venue a voice broke out in thick Scottish brogue, ending the silence as it echoed across the crowd, the voice cried out to Bono "Well stop ****ing doing it then!!" |

| how about a few years ago when there was a huge war in east timor? nobody in america heard about it because it's not worth it, in terms of the political agenda, to cover such events because they don't effect america in any way. this is just one example of the many tragic events that happen every day and are glossed over by major news sources. it's not that it's not important that people died, but if any news source was to cover everything significant that occurs in this world of ours, it would be impossible. people must pick and choose, and of course a mass murder at a large university within the united states is of huge importance to america. it is important here because a south korean was involved, but surely in east timor, nobody is talking about the crazed university killer in america. bottom line: you pick the news sources you pay attention to, and they of course pick information that is relevant to those who tune into their news. there's no reason to be outraged that this is garnering more attention than soldiers dying in iraq because, well, that happens every day, and the us govt is allowed to censor anything related to the military that is exposed to the public, and if we focused too much on these killings every day, the news would consist only of war casualties. politics control the news. end of story. |
