What in the world am I supposed to do for P.E.? I've been playing dodgeball and today we played musical chairs, but I've been tasked with doing lesson plans for next month, and I have no idea what to do besides the stretching, jumping jacks, directional cues, hopping, skipping, jumping, and then games.
Thanks! |

What level?
I was a P.E. teacher in Canada and I have coached for 22 years.
If you want some good ideas at curriculum structure from K - 12 check this out: http://www.education.gov.ab.ca/k%5F12/curriculum/bySubject/physed/default.asp
Download and read the Program of study (first acrobat document on the page)
Hope it helps, and if you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.

how about spending a week or 2 on a particular sport. Kickball, soccer, handball, volleyball, etc...
I remember kickball was a lot of fun. We spent like 2 or 3 weeks on it, making teams and having an actual tournament there the winner was the one team with the best record.
Are they elementary school kids? Try playing playground games like "red rover, red rover" or duck duck goose.
Man, I wish I could teach PE. It would be so much fun. |

I teach PE. We do stretching first - bend, twist, stretch, spin. Sometimes we do foot races. The kids' favorite is called "I can see you" where "it" stands at a point and says "I can see you" with her back turned and then spins around, while the other kids move forward. Anyone caught moving, she says "you moved" and has to link pinkies. When someone tags "it" she has to tag someone who is then it.
Pretty entertaining for five-year olds. |

I used to teach P.E. back in the States, and trust me: Red Rover is ALWAYS a recipe for disaster. Volleyball is always good for a few weeks. Rotating forces everyone to participate at least a little, and there are lots of skill drills you can do (bumping, setting, serving, etc.) |

Thanks for your suggestions. I will just fudge as I go along. We played dodgeball today, and the kids were happy. I think next week we will do some relay races outdoors if the weather is nice. We'll see. |

How serious are you about P.E.? Do you view this as a game time or a chance for them to exercise, or time for them to improve their physical skills? Examine what your goals are for this time.
At the least, look for some balls and have them work on catching and throwing. |

I've seen Korean PE teachers make two or three weeks' worth of lessons out of jump-rope alone. Try synchronised jump-roping moves to music. |
