I wonder what Microsoft thinks of this...

Amid significant customer demand, the computer maker said on Thursday that it has returned to offering the older Windows version as an option on some of its consumer PCs.
Like most computer makers, Dell switched nearly entirely to Vista-based systems following Microsoft's mainstream launch of the operating system in January. However, the company said its customers have been asking for XP as part of its IdeaStorm project, which asks customers to help the company come up with product ideas. |

3rd party driver support is killing Vista right now. Especially 64 bit drivers.
It doesn't help matters that Vista will break a lot of peripherals and the companies that make the peripherals won't bother writing updated drivers for their old products.
I used Vista RC1 for a while and liked it a lot. The biggest pain in the butt was file sharing between a Vista and XP computer.
I'll give Vista til the Fall before I get the Ultimate edition and upgrade. By then all the drivers should be worked out, and there should be a service pack for it to fix any bugs. |
