Rising Living Costs Keep Foreigners Away
Quote:
Many foreign investors coming to South Korea on new business opportunities are surprised at how expensive it is to stay here, with lodging and food expenses topping their list of complaints.

Also incoming foreign tourists have found that it is more costly to travel to and in the country than other Asian nations, which negatively affects the local tourism industry.

Hyun Oh-seok, president of the Trade Research Institute affiliated with the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), said yesterday that Korea's high cost of living is discouraging foreigners from visiting, worsening its service account balance....

"For instance, prices of tourism-related articles are about 4.6 times higher than those in Thailand because of high lodging costs here. Seoul became the second most expensive city last year for food-related expenses,"he said

According to Business Travel News magazine, among 100 largest cities around the world, Seoul came in second in food expenses after Monte Carlo with tourists each spending $202 on average a day for dining. Tokyo ranked eighth....

$202 a day for food? Are they eating caviar? I can eat 3 square for like $12-15 a day if I don't cook at home, and significantly less if I do.

Are they polling 100% CEOs again?

I personally belief it is more of a Quality problem then a Price problem.

On average quality is low in Korea, and prices relatively high.

If hemlines were a major factor in deciding place of residence I would definitely prefer Japan to Korea. Korea has some short ones, but the Japanese really know how to rock the ultra mini models.

Mmm well here in Formosa the water is poison - not because of viruses/ 'bugs' in the water but because of Heavy Metals.

China is far worse of course they have come to face that medical and human health can sometimes overide money making. Cancer treatment costs too...

But, Thailand may have cheap foods and places to stay still you'd better watch your back there as they have a drug problem and drugs = crime.(America is no baston of unlocked country living as now you will find Meth Heads in the Heart of the Ozarks...)

Still umm I say it depends on where you stay you can spend 100-500 for a posh Hotel in Jeju or as little as 14 dollars if you are happy to live with dock workers drunk in the room over (my case when I first arrived job hunting in Jeju)

However those same dock workers were amicable fellows where as in other countries if they are drunk you know they may have dope and if they have dope they may be on crack and as axiomatically Crackheads tend to steal and rob with a vengeance when they need their smack. In Korea if you use drugs you are EVIL in the socail sense... where as the Us it is C00l to be a free ideal Hippie like Willie Nelson or a Blunt Lover Like Snoop Dawg.

BUT ahh back OT Yeah umm you can easily blow off six dollars at an average restaurant or 3-4 if you go with a Kim-bop stand and only get tea...

The best method to eat cheap in Korea is to do like me - when approached by parents or adults for no reason other then you are a Bar Bar hit them up for chocolate- those Korean kids usually have chocolate or some kind of candy they are eating- it worked great for me and was funny when the parents - not me- forced a few of the more selfish kids to share.

me"Give fat Waygook food."

kid "Anieooo"

Dad"He is good teacher. You teach English?"

Me"Yes yes I am a English teacher Sogi Yo Ja Ju Harweo Yongoh Sunsangim"

me to kid" I am hungry Cupda Haksan Chocolate please?"

Dad "Yes Give him your chocolate he is good teacher"

Mom"Are you American?

Me "Yes I am Megookeee very fat American"

Mom "Ha Ha no no you are Handsome guy."

Dad guides kids choclate holdinghand to me "Here chocolate..."

Me "Thankyou" I am very fat.

At this point Pat selfish boy on back or if girl with piggy tails very slowly reach hand to her head to grab piggy tail...

Eat Chocolate.

Save Money...

Continue to walk - be on the look out for University kids eating...

Cmon, Japanese girls are pretty cute. At least on par with Koreans, probably a bit cuter, on average.

And in response to your avatar: Go Sabres!

Japanese and Korean girls are not even close to Brazilans.
