There are some extenuating circumstances at home (American midwest) that may force me to return, at least for a week or so, permanently at the worst-case longshot. Hopefully they'll resolve themselves and I won't have to bother. However, what is the best way to book the cheapest flight possible from Seoul back to the states? Tried the Air Korea site and a the few American sites I know of that support non-demestic travel, seemed kinda pricey compared to what it cost to get me over here. Any advice, just in case I gotta go?

Have you tried a travel agency yet? They have access to discounts that aren't normally known to the general public. If you buy the ticket at the last minute it will cost more than if you buy it a month in advance too.

If you're young, you might want to try to get an ISIC card (easily done, and you can google that).

My one-way flights to and from South Korea cost 550USD.

I don't know about last-minutes, but I've used Kises Travel (http://www.kises.co.kr/) a few times (they're sort of affiliated with STA, but not actually part of STA) and gotten some pretty good rates, especially on group travel.

Singapore Air online often has cheap flights. They had tickets to San Fran for 682,000 last month, round trip. If you go to www.singaporeair.com, choose English for language and South Korea for location. We flew to Vancouver for Christmas for 800,000 round trip.

Singapore Air is really good....I flew with them when I went home in 2004 for a short time and came back to Korea. When I leave in June, I'm again flying on Singapore Air. They have personalized tv's on the back of each seat that where you can watch whatever you want on dozens of channels, plugs and internet access for computer users (yes, in economy class).

The 550USD I had was about a week and a half in advance, but my friend bought hers with three days of advance and got the same price. You should be able to ask an agency (especially an American one) about STA. I just booked it through my travel agent back at home.

I've booked again farther in advance to fly from here, to Tokyo, to home, and it will be 570USD. I couldn't pass that up.

Seat sales, they had Super Saver fares when I booked. Hmm..sorry, checking now, they don't have any. Weird. They had them for months! From September to March! Maybe they don't do them in the Summer. I'm sorry! Embarassed
Koreanair.com has some cheap flights under 1,000,000. Choose Korea as location, English as language. Then on the first page, towards the bottom is a green bar listing e-Super Saver, e-Spot Sale and e-last minute. You can check them out too.
