NPR was alternative 20 years ago. Now, I think of it as good mainstream media. This American Life is great.
The Nation does some good investigative journalism, but also has a liberal bias that makes it predictable (and wrong) at times.
I've never paid much attention to slate.com, but sometimes I come across articles that are interesting.
Oneworld collects many different alternative news stories from agencies worldwide. It also has a liberal bias, but the worldwide perspectives are nice. And, I can subscribe to it for free through my.yahoo.com.
I tend to read my local papers, and then simply search for any news item that catches my fancy. And, in the US, listen to NPR in my car.
The problem with good alternative news is that news organizations that don't just regurgitate the status quo tend to have a liberal bias (or they are whacko right-wing organizations). |

I often read European publications such as Le Monde and Der Spiegal. Online, I often go to ZNet as it has a collection of articles from many sources all around the world. However, they are generally from a leftist/feminist/greenie/socialist/girly-man perspective, but act as a counterweight to the right wing Murdoch rag I have delivered to my door every day.
Alexander Co ckburn's Counterpunch is a similar site along those lines.
I sometimes go to sites like http://electronicintifada.net/new.shtml or http://www.avnery-news.co.il/ or http://www.haaretz.com/ when I'm interested in reading about the Middle East.

No. It's not possible. |

PROFILES IN COURAGE
These kinda people really got balls.
Targets of dark sabotage & cyber-terror, it appears their show is now no longer broadcasting.
Hmmmm ... guess they effectively managed to accomplish all that they needed to
I salute them!

Gee, ya think maybe? One good rag deserves another. I knew you were always on the rag.
So your rightwing periodical is a token to give you the pretense of objectivity, eh? How about a moderate POV? Or are you also binary in your thinking? |

Don't be so silly. Anyone who believes themselves to be objective is truly kidding themselves. All our views are coloured by our experience, our ethics and our knowledge (or lack of it). My rightwing rag would appear to you quite moderate. To some my views are very moderate. To you they are not, because you are so unmoderate yourself. It depends on where on the political spectrum you are standing. |

Me, silly? I'm not the one calling myself Big Bird.
Now, ostrich, please take your head out of the sand for a moment and focus. I already stated that I read the CSM, Atlantic Monthly, view CNN International, sometimes read The Guardian and Independent, among others. What is leftwing about that?
Gee, thanks for reminding me that all our views are biased. I guess you can articulate your positionality and epistemological orientation with ease, eh?
But the critical difference between me and you is that I recognize the value of gaining not only opposing views but also moderate views. And I consider myself a moderate despite your wishful thinking to the contrary. Perhaps you're so far Left, however, that you consider Hillary Clinton a moderate. |

Why do I come to this forum if I'm not interested in opposing views? It's very interesting to see the varying opinions of different posters here, and sometimes I find myself thinking in a new way about something, or shifting my position on some issues. If I was really only interested in reading posts by people with the same perspective as me, I would be wasting my time here, wouldn't I.
I also suspect, that like many here, you really have no idea of what my views are on most issues. You have a caricature of me in your mind, and you presuppose my views on issues. I suspect you also think I'm one of the rabid mulitculturalists you complain about too, don't you? |
