|
|
I noticed while withdrawing money out of one of those generic looking ATMs in the GSmart (other marts have this style too) that there was a wire transfer option. Anyone transferred money home this way?
It said if I sent more than $10,000 home in this way the Korean tax office would be notified. More than $1,000, customs would be notified.
Anyways I tried a transfer... most of the service was in both Korean and English but then it gave me an error message in Korean only saying my card wouldn't work.
It was a Woori Bank BC Card.
What kind of Korean card works in this? JCB? I assume Visa would but those seem to be a bit hard to get. Anyone sent money home this way? I'd prefer a KB card for this... what could I get from them?
Thanks. |

You can't transfer money home from ATMs. To do that you'll need to go into the bank |

As I mentioned, if I wire more than certain amounts out they will notify certain govt branches...
Why would they put the Wire Transfer option there and provide info about what happens if I send alot of money out if it's not possible?
More help appreciated. |

Really, just yesterday I used my ATM to transfer money to my wife's little sister in Thailand...actually, I use my ATM card every mo to transfer money abroad, never have to wait or converse w/ an annoying bank chick. I bet you feel stupid now, eh? Check it high.....
Oh, I almost forgot, for this I use my KEB account. |

What atm did you use? Was it a KEB atm? How simple is this process? Did you have to apply for it at the branch or was it available after u opened up your account?
I would be interested in changing banks if this were the case. |

Takes two minutes if that. Just go in and fill out the form w/ the transfer details and they'll enable you reg ATM card to do it, mind you you can only transfer to the bank you specify, if you transfer to multiple people/ banks you'll still have to wait for the slow azz teller. |

Awesome, I know you don't work for keb but you know how much they charge for that? And can you use a keb bc card or something instead of just the atm card? Thanks. |

No charge for setting it up and the wire transfer fee is less then the "walk in the bank" one...around 10,000 per transfer. |
