I just filled out an application with a recruiting agency and they asked for an upload of my passport....is that safe to do? I worry about identity theft...I checked out other recruiters' website and I don't see any of them asking for an upload of my passport.

I don't think that it is an unreasonable request ... I know I had to do it when I got my job ... They are really just confirming that you do have a current passport that will be valid for long enough for you to get the visa ... They don't want to find you a job and then find that you can't take it or your arrival will be delayed because you don't have a currently valid passport.

Be very careful.

Identity theft is not the problem here.
They will get you a hakwon job.
That is a very scary thought.

All kidding aside. It is one of the requirements.

They need scans of your
Degree - to verify that you have it and qualify for an E2 visa - an EMBASSY/consualte certified copy or the original hard copy will be needed for your visa application.
Passport - to verify that you indeed can travel AND that you are a citizen of one of the 7 approved countries.
Resume - self evident with a job application

.

"SLEEPLESSINIA,"

I had the same concern as you, but this is protocol with a lot of recruiters and Hogwons. In my particular situation, I had to do the same as you--send a copy out, via my computer--printer, scanned. Make sure, however, that the material you are sending is going to a recruiter--establish that--because you would not want some Korean guy using your name.

...Reasons already stated in other peoples' postings why recruiters want to see your passport.

Oh, and never send or give anyone, no matter if they are Hogwons or recruiters, originals of any of your documnets!

I hope you get the job and enjoy Korea to the fullest....

What I would do though....is blank out the number of the passport. Everything else would be fine, but I would never send my passport number through the internet.
