Huffdaddy can't mentally process this because not having women priests in your religion (which does indeed exists in Christianity) is the same as refusing to play soccer with a woman or refusing to shake her hand because she is a woman.... |

Point taken. But I think the Imams were objecting to the presence of women qua women on the team, not female priests specifically. And I understood(or perhaps misunderstood) you as suggesting that Catholics would have the same objection as the Muslims. |
The game was between priests and imams. So while the imams no doubt would have objected to playing again non-priest women, it wasn't the issue. If they would have gone up against the Catholic priests, the issue of women on the pitch wouldn't have come up because there aren't any women Catholic priests. Ergo, I jokingly suggested that next time, they play the Catholics so the issue would be moot.
So what have we learned from this:
1. Some people on this board don't have a sense of humor.
2. Some people will read whatever they want into anything and everything you say.
3. Some people will attack anything and everything you say, just to be assholes.
4. Some people on this board have no sense of humor. |

A sense of proportion would give the indication of fairness or balance.
You stated earlier that you don't aim to be balanced but then criticize Huff for supposedly lacking a sense of proportion. Pardon me but do you have Grey Poupon? I meant to ask if isn't that like the pot calling the kettle black in that case? If not, show me how it is not.
Most Christian sects do not have women priests. That is a recent phenomena. Postfundie mentioned that. It is only recently that Anglicans have ordained women. The Catholic and Orthodox Churches which represent about a billion Christians have not ordained any women priests. Of course, I would like to see female imams, but there is only one, and she is in America.
What if the imams said they only wanted to play male imams against male priests and female religious Muslims and the female reverends?
What if Catholic priests would have objected? In some countries, the Catholic priests would object. It seems like the imams had no idea that females were going to play, and it was sprung upon them, and they cancelled. I am not too crazy about imams, generally, but that is the impression I got from reading the article. When I played P.E. in high school we didn't have a co-ed soccer team. That would have been unusual. The girls had their own soccer team.
Anyway, who cares....Refusing to play doesn't make the imams bad and the priests good... It was about extending good will and both sides have good will. How about mention that as well? |
