All the teachers at my school were hit up with 3 times more deduction than usual for insurance.

The employer said that it's got to do with Korean gov't and that in April they all pay extra, even Koreans.

Can anybody confirm this please?

Your boss is full of crap. Your boss is definitely on to something bad and running low on cash. Rolling Eyes

What was the usual and what was the April's deduction(s)?

They probably didn't take out enough last year so they are catching up. Last Fall the insurance rate went up from around 44,000 to about 50,000 won. Maybe they didn't change their deduction.

Or maybe they are ripping you off . . . but it doesn't sound like that.

I had an extra deduction taken off in April that was a retro-pay for the increase in insurance. Not three times, tho - more like 15 thousand won, total, iirc.

Same thing happened to me at my (national) unigwon. I pitched a pretty good fit over it, pulling out previous pay slips and comparing them. The financial officer came in with a printout showing it as a one-time adjustment due to my overtime pay during the previous year. A co-worker who works tons of overtime paid a bigger chunk than me, but others paid less. The main reason I accepted the explanation is because the university only taxes my regular pay...overtime is always paid WITH NO DEDUCTIONS! I think the annual 'adjustment' is legit. You can always call the National Health Insurance scheme to find out what's been paid into your account. If I had any doubts, that would be the first thing I'd do.

They do the same thing at the uni I'm at. deductions are small (or non-existant) until April. Then they take out 3 months at once.

If you paid the normal amount prior to April and then you got nailed for 3X...then it's time to ask the boss WTF is going on.
