yeah, but it requires a bit of knowledge about how to run a tracker. of course i have the knowledge (others on this site also might know how) but it also would require money to pay the server bills.

ah but the original sharer of the file has to upload the torrent file to a server (called a tracker). the torrent file contains information about what is being shared and the address of the server. everyone connects to the server (uses a small amount of bandwidth - but if you have lots of users it would use a lot of bandwidth) to find out other people's ip addresses so they can connect to each other and share the file. you have to pay for the torrent tracker. i definitely wouldn't want to host a bittorrent tracker on my own personal computer (too risky)

I use www.mininova.org with Utorrent often to get my TV shows, movies, and music. Works like a charm as long as there are seeds which usually is not a problem. You like Spiderman 3? You like Lost season 3 episodes? No problem. You got it all here. More than enough media.

There use to be an FTP run by a member of the "other site." No one really used it so it sort of got discontinued. I have all my torrents set to d/l though rss feed, but if anyone is setting up a FTP or such, I will join and make mine available. Smile

ps. mininova is a joke Smile

<lol> how is mininova a joke. I've gotten more stuff from there than from anywhere.

And amazingly you have an opportunity to seed...unlike private trackers.

sure anyone can use mininova...

if you download a file from another client in Korea however you would see huge speed increases.

Not exactly, I get much better speeds off private trackers than you ever would on mininova. I never wait more than 3-5 min for a show.

I just got 5 new shows simultaneously from Mininova and it took me 10 min to complete and a 1:1 ratio.

Man! I'd better go beg for invites to a private tracker and spend six days seeding to get up to a 0.5:1 ratio. But then I could get my shows in 5 minutes! Rolling Eyes

I've been around and private trackers are only good for 3 things...getting really rare/old stuff, granting a little bit more privacy, and satisfying a need to be part of a club.

If you have to seed for 6 days, you have a sucky connection. I use RSS feed (another great option on some private torrents).. I get home from work, my shows are waiting.. plus have a ratio of 2+

This is very true.. and on certain sites (like bitmetv) the show can be years old, but still fast. I downloaded the BSG miniseries recently, and it took 2hrs.. That isn't bad for being released 3yrs ago.

Strange that I have a sucky connection and download 5 shows in 10 min. Sorry I didn't take a screeny for you, but its pretty commonplace with 3000 seeders on the public tracker. I regularly get dl speeds of 700+ on popular shows...and my upload speed goes as high as I'll let it. Absolutely no problem with my high-speed.

I have to doubt that YOU have a 2+ share on shows that you've only had a day unless you're using some cheat software. Private trackers are very well known for extremely fast downloads and excruciatingly slow seed-ablilty <is that a word lol>. Check any of their forums...FILLED with complaints. Trust me I've been doing this forever, and I've been on all the "big name" private trackers.

General advice for most peeps in Korea. Forget the private trackers unless you need really old/rare stuff...save the headache. Use PG2 for more privacy than a private will give you.

EDIT: FYI - utorrent will let you subscribe to RSS feeds easily. I used to feed off mini all the time.

Sorry, I have to say BS on your public tracker rate. I used to use mininova when I first came to Korea and never came close to that. I too use private trackers and easily download at 3-4 M/B s as soon as the show is released. I also upload close to that as well. That is just not something you get on a public tracker. As for me, I can take a show as soon as it is released on bitmetv and seed it to 5-6 before dinner.

Yep, definitely can't get 3 megabytes per sec on a public tracker. Can't do it. Impossible. Total BS.

As for a common speed? I generally *at least* this speed on a well-seeded torrent.
