Many foreigners come to Korea. Most leave and some come back. Seeing how this is a small country with only so many places to see, I wonder why some foreigners come back.
If you have come back. please tell us what drew you back to Korea. |

I came back after 5 years. Main reason? Money. It's the most financially viable option. Everywhere else you have pay for your own apartment and you get paid less.
Also I guess it was a stick with what you know based decision, although if there had been other Asian countries with the same monetary gains then I may have considered them.
Second time around, all I can say is that I am so glad I made this decision. It's completely different to what I went through my first time here. No culture shock whatsoever and the transition has been seamless. |

Funny, I also came back after 5 years. I went home in '02 for more education and training. Came back 'cause I felt like a break from reality. The last time around I dreamed of a public school gig. Now I have one and it's all I thought it would be. Leaving in 3 months and seriously doubt I will return again. Next adventure - a year at the American School in Dubai. Gonna take a coupla years tho. |

I came back because I missed it. Seriously. There is probably something wrong with me, but when I went to Taiwan I found I was bored, and going back to the US was worse still. Maybe I just won't be satisfied until I have managed to convince everybody in Korea to like me... life in Taiwan was much simpler, with a lot more respect from... well, everyone. I guess I am just a masochist.
Plus, I like the four distinct seasons. |

After my first year, I had spent way too much money living it up, so I needed to come for another year to pay off some debts. The second year was "definitely the last".... now I'm working on year 5. |

No need to give an explanation on why you came back. I'm sure if a person didn't want to come back to Korea, he or she wouldn't have. What I can't stand are the whiners who blast Korea every chance they get, yet continue to stay here. |

Stick with the tried and true. That makes a lot of sense. |

1. Money was a big factor. I left to go back to grad school and took out a bit of a student loan. Getting a real job back in Canada and paying off the loan over 10 years didn't seem so appealing when I could do it in a year here.
2. I actually missed it. Working 5 or 6 hours a day in the afternoon just seems to work with who I am.
3. Life is a lot more interesting here. Great travel opportunities around Asia |

My second time around, My korean wife could not get a good job in Canada. Just Mcdonald's or timmies. She has a master's degree from Korea Univeristy and worked at Samsung here. But in Korea like every forienger she could not get a job. Plus the money for me. Having a F-2-1 visa rocks and you can make so much. |

I came back to pay for my mistake of not making it in Japan. Leaving in 3 months and won't be back. (And this time I mean it! ) I won't teach ESL anymore either, at least in this form as a native teacher in a public school, a hagwon teacher, unigwon teacher, etc. |

1. Money. Grand a month without trying whiile doing something I love: teaching.
2. Martial Arts. Three minute walk to the dojo vs. a thirty minute drive.
3. Friends. Coworkers, Koreans, Restaurant owners. After ten months, close friends have made life much more enjoyable.
4. Korean lessons: I have a great teacher and I have always wanted to learn a foriegn language.
5. Family support: Except for my mother, everyone says dont settle in the states too early.
--but, I would rather be lying next to a beach, eating curry rice after a morning of muay thai training. |
