Correct. Goaltending and defence win cups. Anaheim is better in that regard. Period. |

Ottawa in 6.
It's Canada's year!!!
Plus their offence rocks! The Ducks won't be able to shut them down. |

In the old clutching and grabbing NHL defence and goaltending won cups. The new NHL offense and good defence will win the cup. The Sens have a lot of experience albeit little finals experience but I still believe experience means squat.
Emery is unknown, this is where great goalies become known, will he be great? Maybe, but he has been playing outstanding. But the Sens only need good goaltending to win, not great.
Sens are rested and pretty much injury free. Heatly, Alfie and Spezza are hard to stop, the next 2 lines are solid and the fourth is as good as any in the league.
The Sens in 5. I just wish Detroit would have won so they could have beat Hasek, would have been sweet revenge for him quitting on Ottawa in the past.
And as far as superstition of touching the conference finals trophy...the word is superstition...are you afraid of Friday the 13, black cats, walking under ladders? Maybe the Ducks are, not the Sens! |

Emery is good enough to stop Anaheim's offence.
Giguere is not good enough to stop Ottawa's.

I guess many of you are talking about the south and southwest. Most American cities would care about winning the Cup. Carolina and Tampa are obviously not hockey towns. Don't lump Dallas in with that group. The popularity of hockey in north Texas grew by leaps and bounds when the Stars were led by Gainey and Hitchcock. The Cup cemented the team as a true Dallas team. The key players are now household names in that area- Hull, Modano, Belfour, and Hatcher. Modano and Belfour are especially popular.
There is a great deal of respect for Bob Gainey, and he is widely considered to be the greatest Dallas sports coach/GM who was never involved with the Cowboys. Obviously Landry and Johnson are the top Dallas icons in that field. Gainey's resignation as GM was front page news.
Anaheim would probably care about the Cup because of so many transplanted Canadians and others from bigger hockey towns. Don't forget that Gretzky once played in that general vicinity, so there has been big hockey interest in the LA-area for at least 15-20 years. That trip to the Finals in '93 was a very big deal in southern California. Shame LeClair and Roy blew their dreams to pieces. (Yes, I know it was the Kings, but it's the same vicinity, and the Ducks were started because of the interest created by Gretzky with the Kings).
Before that? Marcel Dionne? |

I could say a lot of things right now... like... how Ottawa wasn't going to able to handle a physical defensive team, or how Emery wasn't going to be able to maintain his composure, or how experience can lift a team to victory... I could say those things, but I won't.
What I will say is that Ottawa played well.
The down side?
It might be the best game that you're going to see out of them. Anaheim had a sloppy game, and they didn't play like they wanted to win.
I could go on and on about the shots on goal (32-20 in favor of Anaheim), or about how Giguere stood on his head when the team needed him to, or how the two goals that he did let in weren't his fault.
But the most telling statistic of the entire game? Ottawa scored both of their goals during the power play, and were completely outplayed when it was 5 on 5. Hell, they couldn't even get a goal during a 5 on 3, but then again, that isn't Ottawa's fault, Giguere is known for his acrobatics... too bad Emery isn't.
-belch-
Game 2 is coming next... Ottawa is probably going to win it, but not because they deserve it, but because I predict Anaheim is going to let them have it just like they almost let them have this one.
Another game or two of Anaheim's physical play (oh, and by the way, Ottawa really, really doesn't like playing a physical team, very evident during the game) and Ottawa is going to buckle.
*beep* the East. Bring the cup home Anaheim. |

I stand by my prediction. More of the same is likely coming. Lack of experience will kill Ottawa. |

There is Anaheim's 1 game. Sens had a long rest, a little rusty, no worries. |

At least I stand by my team in defeat... and to be honest, I hope to hell Hasek doesn't retire, come a victory next year, or another loss.
Hasek is probably one of the greatest playoff goalies ever, and he played a great post season this year. I'd take him, and loyalty, over anyone else in the league.
Go *beep* yourself. I'm a real hockey fan. |

Loyal to money?
He walked away from 3million dollars that the Red Wings were contracted to pay him because he got injured.

You clearly don't know shit about hockey... fair weather fan all hyped up on his teams current success. Team loses, never hear from you again. |
