I did, however, receive a conducting lesson from Simon Rattle. That was the best day of my life in that year!!!!

Peyton Manning sat across from me in an international economics class in 1996.

In 1985, I was nine years old and my dad noticed Kenny "the Snake" Stabler dining at a restaurant in the Hyatt in Birmingham, Alabama the morning of the Tennessee vs. Alabama football game. Dad chatted him up and Stabler was really cool and even let me put on his Super Bowl ring.

A couple of years ago, I looked down coutry singer Lorrie Morgan's shirt at a Jiffy Lube in Hendersonville, Tennessee as she reached down into her purse.

Not my story exactly, but my kid sis was sneaking in the back door of a pub, and Russell Crowe was the guy who held open the door for her. This was about a week after the phone throwing incident, when he was promoting his album

Harmon Killebrew signed my baseball at a minor league game.

I stood in line behind Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top at a mall in Peoria, Illinois.I was standing behind him thinking "Dude, that guy looks like the guy from ZZ Top. He dresses pretty cool for an old guy..." He told me to go ahead of him because he would be awhile, so I did.
I didn't realize that it actually was him until I left the store and people were gawking at him. Then I heard on the radio on the car drive home that ZZ Top was in town for a concert.

Travelling around airports:

- "Macho Man" Randy Savage at Newark. He was a total dick. Told me to F off as we were walking to the same gate in Newark. Called me a faggot, too. And he was supposed to be one of the good guys at the time??? (fighting "bad guy" Ric Flair)
- Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan in O'Hare...Hogan just ignored everyone, and Andre was drinking what smelled like straight vodka from a Super BIG Gulp cup.
- The Hart Foundation at Pearson...Jim Neidhart was a total dick. Told my 8-year old brother to screw off when he asked for an autograph. Bret Hart was only happy to give the autograph. Jimmy Hart was really cool about the whole thing... he apologized for Jim and went back and got the autograph for my brother, and apologized again.

Plenty in Korea

- Korean comedian Cho Hye-ryeon at Incheon... standing in front of me, she was trying to hide under her hat and and glasses but my impersonation of her Gollum character got her to laugh.
- Kim Hye-soo YEARS ago in the old Tower Records in Kangnam
- Kim Tae-hee at a meet-the-fans thing at Jongro YBM
- Lee Na-young while she was filming at the Jongro YBM
- Park Joong-hoon while filming his "romance" movie with Song Yoon-a (missed meeting her by minutes...dammit!)
- Koo Joon-yup at the California Fitness Center (a few weeks after his Clon partner got hit by a car)... super cool guy, but his bodygaurd was a dick
- Sung Yoo-ri and Ok Joo-hyun of FinKL, actress Choi Jin-shil, and singer J, also at California Fitness.

A few in Japan, too, but maybe the only one who people here would possibly know is Antonio Inoki, one of their most famous pro-wrestlers. I think he's a congressman now.

I shook hands with both Jean Cretien and Brian Mulroney (also Preston Manning and Ontario Premier Mike Harris, but we won't speak of them)

while working at an ice cream place in midtown manhattan, i served ice cream to:

while walking on the streets, i saw countless others, including: bill clinton, julia louis dreyfuss, john goodman, deion sanders, lilly taylor, rachel dratch, and kyle maclachlan...


and i was on a plane with ice cube and his play girl once. and the same day, i saw run from run dmc at the raleigh airport.
geraldo rivera was sitting at the table beside mine at a bar one night.

at clubs/parties i saw various celebrities, including scarlet johansson and naima (the girl with the interesting hair who won america's next top model)

barbara walters spoke at my school. i also saw many plays and shows with famous people, including edward norton, catherine keener, and bette midler. and i went to the taping of "the view" where stevie wonder was the guest.

i also lived with edward norton's stunt double from "the italian job".

also, while going to the subway sandwich shop across the street from my apartment one day, i saw simon rex getting out of a cab. but he might be c-listing it at this point.

that's all i can think of right now.

and now i'm in korea and all of that brushing-with-the-stars-on-a-daily-basis hype is over and i just sound pompous when i mention it.

which city do you think has more celebrity sightings on a daily basis? new york or los angeles?

in new york it was very uncool to acknowledge that you knew who the person was and just treat them like normal. is it that way on the other coast?

I met George Herbert Walker Bush on one of his election campains before he became pres.

I met General Colin Powell at a dinner function I went to in D.C.

I met Keith Urban back in 1997 and spoke with him about his career. I knew he'd go far. He's made a great fortune with his music hits and he married long-time friend Nichole Kidman.

I met Denis Edwards from the Temptations. I sold him something and other people in the mall kept staring at us. I figured something was up and I asked him, "are you in politics? Should I know you or something?" He just laughed and said, "have you ever heard of the Temptations?" I said, "Temptations, uh, no." He laughed again and then it hit me... Well, it was funny! He was on the Ophra show not long after that. He is a good friend of hers. Nice guy, down to earth!

I met Kid Rock at the grocery store. We spoke about a few things (I don't remember) while we were standing in line. After Kid Rock left, the guy at the counter said, "do you know who that was? It's Kid Rock!?" I said, "so, who's that?" He started singing a few of his tunes and it didn't dawn on me until I saw his name on a Juke Box.

I met more newscasters than I care to count. They are really nice people!

Oh, I almost forgot. I met Jamie Farr. Coporal Maxwell Clinger of TV's M*A*S*H when he played Ebenezer Scrooge in Nashville. Wow, was he ever GOOD. He is perhaps the best actor I have ever seen. That man is far more talented than his MASH character could ever allow. He was extremely friendly to speak with and very intelligent.

I worked for one of the large book store chains in America. One in New Jersey, and one in Florida.

In the NJ store, Bruce Springsteen came in with his father. Now, living on the Jersey shore I knew there could always be a chance I could meet him, and if I ever did I had a question to ask him. My cousin--who is about the same age as Bruce, which is about 15 years older than me--was a drummer for bands that played at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park back when Bruce was playing there (hence, Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ). Whenever I saw him, he would always talk about Bruce. So I knew if I ever met Bruce I would ask him if he knew my cousin.

So, while he was getting his purchases rung up (he bought a lot of books), I got up the nerve to ask him.

It was about 9 or 10 years ago, but I think it went something like this:

Me: "Mister Springsteen, do you mind if I ask you a question?

Bruce: "Sure go ahead."

Me: My cousin used to play at The Pony back in the day, in The Cahoots and Hot Romance, and he would always talk about you. So I was wondering if you remember him, Steve ___________?"

Bruce: (Thinking for a second) "Yeah, I knew Steve. Hey, I just saw Joey the other day!"

Me: "Oh . . . I didn't know any of the other guys, just Steve."

The conversation awkwardly ended there. I felt like a such an idiot afterwards. If only I'd known Joey too. Bruce seemed like a pretty cool guy though.

Anyway, later my cousin's father (my uncle) died, and the drummer on Bruce's first two albums, Vinnie "Mad Dog" Lopez, was at the funeral. So my cousin probably really did know Bruce.
