|
|
| I wanted to clear up the clutter in my case by making the DVD-ROM a slave of the HD and thus get rid of a cable. But doing so really farked things up, with the system just displaying gibberish for the primary master at boot-up. With the DVD left out of the equation, or put on its own IDE channel, everything is hunky-dory. Any ideas what the deal is? |

Jumpers and it is not a good idea to run a CD-ROM on the same IDE cable as the HDD. PIO / DMA issues may ensue.
Can you see inside your case? Why are you worried about an extra ribbon? Airflow? Maybe, but nothing major, provided it isn't hanging right down the center. |

| You can buy some rounded IDE cables if the ribbon ones are too much of an eyesore. |

| Yeah, I did get some rounded cables and decided to try this after there turned out to be not enough space to put in a Geforce4 without unplugging the HD and floppy cables first. I must have set the jumpers wrong, but maybe I'll just scrap the idea. |
