Colbert's parody of Rain showed no indication that he was mocking his own conservative character. If he were parodying a black rapper, he would have been careful to indulge in stereotypes of the square white guy, not the negative stereotypes that are associated with blacks.
In Rain's case, Colbert ran the clips of ``strange Asian TV _ which Americans are accustomed to mocking _ then wrote a song in which he blurted out the few stereotypical concepts that Americans associate with Koreans _ kimchi and Hyundai.

I think he missed the joke. First kimchi and Hyundai are points of pride among Koreans. Hardly stereotypes, in the negative way. I also note Colbert made no mention of dog eating. If his intent was to be offensive, he'd have thrown that in.
Second, Colbert's mocking of Korea was weak by design. In Kim's rush to be offended, he missed the fine point that it was really mocking the lack of ready knowledge about Korea. It's a bit like when the Simpsons mocks Canada or South Park mocks Canada. It's not about making fun of Canada. It's about making fun of the lack of real knowledge.
It seems to me real Koreans saw the humor and weren't offended. |

Talking of dog eating,
I wonder what the sensitive Koreans would make of the football chant now adopted by the English teams with Korean players?
Sung by Man Utd fans
he'll shoot
he'll score
he'll eat your labrador

You can get the following as a RING TONE FOR YOUR MOBILE:
Park Park, where ever you may be,
You eat dogs in your own country,
But you could be worse;
you could be Scouse,
Eating rats in their Council house |

Never been to an English soccer match then?
A lot of the singing and chants are not for the feint hearted....how about the classic
Wheres your father
Wheres your father
Wheres your father referee
Havent got one, never had one
your a B@st@rd referee
Believe me there are far worse chants, i wont even type the chant used by many against Manchester Utd fans which mocks the Muncih Air crash that wiped out what was a fantastic squad of players. |

Geez I remember a couple world cups back the British fans were making fun of the Argentinian side with chants about Argie sailors going to the bottom of the ocean in the Falklands War (I think the Brits still lost to them). |

You sound korean in your belief that Britain is one country. In soccer at least they are split into England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. You heard English fans singing. |

Mostly just rebel songs and anti british songs. And also the type of crap you hear at every ground
" I'd rather be a (insert racial slur) than a hun.."
