I know people said that it's private property. Then why was it wrong to ban black people from country clubs since they were private owned?
They were forced to take in people from different races. Tiger Woods, himself, had trouble playing at certain golf clubs. In Canada, an Afro-Canadian sued, because he wasn't allowed into a dance club. What's the difference? I don't care if there are 2,000 heterosexual clubs. This is reverse discrimination. If this allowed then why can't race or gender or life style discrimination at private establishments be okay? So, I agree with Octavious on this one.
The hotelier is not the president of some world gay union, if that exists, he is just a gay businessman presumably and he thought it would be good for his business. It's no different than associating a white male owner of a club not wanting a person from a certain race in his bar with all white males. |

For sure. As you seem to be complaining about this bar. If you're earnestly interested in entering a gay bar as a straight man, then do complain away. More power to you. |
I'm not complaining about the bar, Im complaining about the hypocrisy of not wanting to be discriminated against amd then doing it themselves. Stop being victims and live in the real world. Learn from Nelson Mandala, he understood that the end of apartheid was not the end of the struggle but the start of a new one.
Oh and I have been to gay bars, before it was trendy to have gay friends.

Octavius Hite I havent called you or anyone a poof or a fag so why the name calling? and if you read my posts correctly you would see we agree with each other but maybe for different reasons

Sorry, Pligganease gets my ire up, with his nonsense. Listen we agree, I'm just not taking it so personally. In Canada you can have a women's only healthclub and I disagree with that.
Listen, most gays, I think would disagree with this decision, we don't want to reesegregate ourselves. |

A woman only health club? If that is acceptable then why trash places like Saudi Arabia? Long ago there used to be women's universities in the U.S., but now they take in women. However, what about the idea of people wanting all male schools in some parts? Isn't that segregation? I think if the segregation is not intended to discriminate and the owner is not anti-heterosexual it is a different case. It is not like a person who is bigoted and doesn't want a black or China, Chinese man in a bar.... |

My hometown has two woman only health clubs.
Adventurer, I hope you have just made a mistake with your second sentence.
1) Women choose to workout together and keep men out (avoiding the male gaze). This is done by consenting adults on private property in the private sphere of society.
2) Women are, by law and religious edict kept separate from men in all situations. This is done by the government in the public sphere.
1 & 2 are morally equal? The personal isn't political, or we will look like Saudi. |

Well, I can sort of understand females wanting to work out on their own.
I frankly noticed the girls, but I didn't stare at them. I just wasn't blind.
However, we all know that Koreans can prevent foreigners from going to their bars. If we do the same in Canada or the U.S., then we get sued.
It wouldn't matter if I own the land upon which one finds the discotheque.
I understand that it is quite different from Saudi Arabia. I guess you are saying not allowing men into a women's health club is not meant to offend men, but rather to keep the women from being disturbed doing their work out while stopping an Asian from entering a discotheque in Pickering is clearly offensive. So are you saying the intention is the key here when barring certain people entry? I suppose I could buy that to some extent.
I don't go to gay bars, so I don't know anything about this debate. Perhaps, some heterosexuals bother the gay people, but this owner even wants lesbians banned. It sounds dumb. |

| Apparently they want to keep out the gangs of "hens" (Ozy word?) who are on stag(ette?) parties. I wasn't expecting that.. |

I thought this ruling was utter nonsense, and totally discriminatory, until you all mentioned the women's health club. I've never used them, but for someone like my mother who really wants a safe environment to get some excercise, I really see the benefit. So, maybe I can sympathize with the gay men who want a safe place to socialize without all the homophobes and annoying straight women checking them out.
But, I'm still wondering, how can they enforce this rule? Let's say I'm a heterosexual man who has a gay friend and I enter the bar. How do you prove your gay? Suck dick on demand? Or is it just that anyone poorly dressed with no rhythm is asked to leave?
I still don't think this should be enforced as a law that permits discrimination, despite its possible necessity. In the U.S., it would be illegal, because a bar is a place of public accomodation. Plus, it's still gender discrimination because it seems to be banning women altogether. The bar should seek out another way to enforce its desire to support gay patrons. |

What about straight men that want a safe place to socialize without being harassed by gay men? |

First Darfur, now you being harrassed by gay guys, when will the terror stop.
I am willing to bet 100,000W that you have never been harrased by a gay man in a straight club.
I am also willing to bet that on more than one occasion in your life you got liquored and slid up to some strange woman and sexually harrased her in a straight bar.
And I will take both of those bets with any straight guy, any day of the week. |

Again, not reading the posts! You can't join the argument unless you read the posts.

You are quite arrogant to think that I was talking to you. |
Well, to be fair, I also assumed you were talking to Octavius. Your post appeared directly below his and was addressed to 'you.' |

Well, I disagree with you. Women, of any age, can feel uncomfortable under the gaze of men when they are working out and wearing skimpy gym wear. Women should not be forced to exercise in front of the opposite sex if this makes them uncomfortable.
I also think it's fine for a gay club to restrict its patronage. I have been on some hen nights and the women sometimes get horribly drunk and behave abominally. Obnoxious drunk women making crude suggestive comments to frightened young men. It's so ugly to watch. I pity the unfortunate men who get in their way. Ugh! |

So, I assume that you mean hitting on someone is "sexual harassment?" If so, then I surely have been "sexually harassed" by gay guys on numerous occasions. |
